I'm a top 50 Witness!
I woke up this morning to find I have broken into one of the top 50 witness spots!
This means voting for my witness account @lukestokes.mhth is as simple as visiting https://steemit.com/~witnesses, clicking the arrow next to my account's name, and signing it with your active key.
I'm so excited about this! Last night I posted about the challenge of promoting myself as a witness. I was sitting at position 74:
When I woke up, I saw a number of new votes but was confused as the total number of VESTs didn't match the change I saw in my account. I'm currently at 16,899MV but the total weight of the votes I got was only 363.65MV.

Strange.
For those who aren't familiar with VESTS, you can can see the distribution here. VESTs are the internal representation of Steem Power and the ratio between Steem Power and VESTS changes over time. It's currently at 482.601 STEEM per MV:
I was told @pumpkin made the difference and it turns out a lot of accounts use @pumpkin as their witness voting proxy, including @freedom, which brought in 14,865M of my new witness vote weight.
I like the idea of freedom supporting my witness campaign. :)
I don't know who @pumpkin or @freedom are, but thank you!
As a top 50 witness, I can now witness more blocks on the blockchain which will hopefully make running my node financially worth the effort to cover server costs and my time.
I understand, this ranking can change at any time, but I'm going to pause a moment right now and celebrate while I can. :)
If you're not familiar with witnesses and what they do, check out the Steemit FAQ (you may have to scroll down after the page loads) or view my recent posts on the topic:

Thank you for your support. I will continue to be an active participant here, working to educate and inspire. I think we need more active witnesses who understand technology but can also explain it to those who don't. That's where I hope to bring real value.
Luke Stokes is a father, husband, business owner, programmer, voluntaryist, and blockchain enthusiast. He wants to help create a world we all want to live in.
Wow, we're up to #40!! Thank you all.
Congrats for being there! You took my spot once @pumpkin downvoted me - to free a spot, which was, it seems, for you - and now I'm down to 68, not producing too many blocks atm (if any).
I'm happy for you being here and I support your activities as a witness. It's great to see more people coming to support the platform from this role!
Thank you for having such a great attitude about the change. Unfortunately this does appear to be a fixed pie situation where some gain and some lose. The network can always use a ready supply of backup witnesses, so I hope you keep your node running. Even in position 74, I was able to witness a block a day for a couple days.
Of course I will keep my node active. I'm either in 100% or out 100%, and now it happens I'm in. I really am happy that more people are taking more active roles in this community. It's a very new concept and we're learning as we go. Steem on :)
Woohoo! The two most recent votes were my referrals :D While it didn't make as much difference as @pumpkin and @freedom, I'd like to think it'll make a difference in the bigger picture, or at least when you're in the top 20. Congrats, Luke! You earned it :D
Thanks Jed! I definitely appreciate your ongoing, enthusiastic support.
Dude, you can always rely on me for that for sure! I really enjoy supporting people who I truly believe in. You, Luke, have the right stuff to really make changes here :D
I knew it wouldn't take long. Good to see. You've always been an asset to the platform, so I'm glad that you've taken on this role.
Thanks @bacchist. I really appreciate the pioneering efforts you've taken to learn about this stuff early on and get familiar with the process. I may be joining you on some other graphene blockchains like peerplays and eos in the future, if I carve off the time for it.
Excellent. I'm learning so much more about graphene these days. It's a lot of fun.
Congratulations!
I did a little promotion to those deserving and very helpful witnesses.

Excellent! It's always a good thing to remind people to evaluate and update their witness votes.
Can I get a hell yeah! Congrats man
HELL YEAH!
Congrats, Luke!
I think I will vote for you, Luke.
Thank you! :)
Woot!
Good for you, That chapped so fast!
