For the davinci.witness, to stand out in a crowd of old and new witnesses is a challenging task. The increase in RAM demand from the network has brought up the minimum threshold at 64GB to run a server. Despite the drop in Steem price we decided to invest in a dedicated server with 128GB RAM which has a cost of 170$ per month that we pay directly using SBD or Steem to @privex.

Recent developments in real life (although we also consider our activity on Steemit as integral part of our occupation) have led us to change the composition of our team. This change was unexpected and it could delay the implementation of some of the projects that we planned but we never stopped working and we will continue to do so. We believe in this project and we strive to contribute for its growth.

The current team is composed of:

With this update we want to inform you about the ongoing activities and also about the expenses we sustained.

The projects:

1. @davinci.witness This is our core project, we run a 128GB RAM server with a fixed monthly cost of 170$.
2. @davinci.polyglot The objective of this project is to foster interaction between users of different nationalities, too often language is a barrier to interaction and by offering a service of manual translation from Italian to English and vice versa, we want to enable users to reach wider audiences.
3. @davinci.times This project facilitates the dissemination of scientific news. A team of writers creates excerpts from the most recent scientific news, linking back to the source. Moreover, everyday they hand-pick a scientific post published on steemit and that uses the #steemstem tag. We vote the selected posts with our small trail and we try to increase the exposure of the original authors by mentioning them in our posts.

Although we are lucky to have several collaborators that work tirelessly with us for the development of these projects, we believe that people should be rewarded for their effort and we use 60% of the SBD generated from all our posts to reward authors and translators. The remaining 40% is used to cover the expenses for maintaining the server. So far, despite the small size of our account, we have already distributed 35,73 SBD to our collaborators and we are proud of their work.

Currently the expenses to maintain our server exceed the Steem Power generated by our witness. However, we became witness only recently and we hope users will appreciate our efforts and join our projects.
We will work hard to gain a better position as a witness and to start generating a positive flow of Steem and SBD that exceeds our expenses. Our plan is to use part of the income generated as a witness to finance projects, contests and also to sustain some of the communities that deserve more help than what they are currently getting. We want to target both italian and international users. We are open to work with users from different nationalities and help them foster cross-language interactions in our platform.

There are more projects under the hood but we will uncover them in due time, for now we will focus on making the current project self-sustaining.

Per il davinci.witness, emergere tra tutti i nuovi e vecchi arrivati è davvero molto difficile.
Le spese per sostenere il server sono diventate ingenti negli ultimi mesi, per via dell'aumento della RAM utilizzata che ha portato la soglia minima a 64GB. Per evitare problemi, per lavorare al meglio e soprattutto perché crediamo davvero in questo progetto, abbiamo scelto di affittare un server dedicato con 128GB RAM al costo attuale di 170$ mese, pagabili direttamente in SBD e/o Steem a @privex.

Attualmente gli impegni della vita reale (intendendo quella extra Steemit, nonostante consideriamo l'avventura in Steemit parte integrante della nostra occupazione) hanno portato a diversi cambiamenti e alcuni addii, momentanei, che ci rallenteranno inizialmente il prosieguo dei nostri progetti. Questo non significa che verrà chiusa "baracca e burattini". Intendiamo continuare perché siamo fermamente convinti che davinci.witness sia un vero punto di forza.

Vogliamo in questo aggiornamento mettervi al corrente delle nostre attività in corso e delle spese sostenute.

I Progetti

1. Il witness. Progetto principale che avvia e sostiene tutti gli altri. Per l'attuale server spendiamo 170$ al mese.
2. Il Polyglot. Questo progetto intende divulgare il post di buona fattura e di interesse generale traducendolo in inglese o in italiano per incentivare lo scambio di cultura tra gli utenti che non conosco bene queste due lingue.
3. Il Times. Progetto di divulgazione scientifica cerca e ripropone in versione di pillole gli articoli scientifici in modo che siano interessanti ad un pubblico di non scienziati.

Noi crediamo sia essenziale retribuire gli utenti per il loro lavoro ed il 60% degli SBD ricavati dai post viene ridistribuito tra gli editori ed i traduttori.
Dall'inizio del progetto ad oggi sono stati distribuiti 35,73 SBD che potrebbero sembrare pochi, ma sono il frutto di un ottimo lavoro svolto e siamo orgogliosi della professionalità dei nostri collaboratori.
Il restante 40% dovrebbe servire a finanziare il server, o almeno coprirne parte delle spese.

Anche se al momento siamo in perdita, speriamo che lavorando sodo molti di voi possano apprezzare il nostro impegno.
Noi aspiriamo a scalare più’ in alto nella classifica dei witness e ad arrivare quantomeno in una posizione che ci permetta di generare un introito. Noi prevediamo di destinare parte dei guadagni generati, al netto delle spese di server e di gestione, per finanziare lo sviluppo di progetti, contest e comunita’. Come target avremo sia utenti italiani che internazionali.
