Witness Update Report #8

Great news gang, and just in time for our weekly witness report, we are officially at active rank 50 today. As always we can not thank everyone enough who made the conscious decision to vote for us as witness. We encourage all steemians to go and vote for the witnesses they feel have the platform's best interests at heart. The system is dependent on these votes and uses a consensus mechanism called Delegated Proof of Stake.
There has been no downtime and no missed blocks in the last week, and we're sure everyone is pretty ecstatic with the Steem and SBD recovery in the market. There was also some great news, Steem is to be list on the Huobi exchange today, one of the biggest crypto exchange in China, but they announced today that this listing would be postponed.

3 Scenarios To Destroy Bitcoin

The MIT Technology Review published an article 2 days ago called "Let's Destroy Bitcoin" explaining three ways that Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies, in general, could be taken down.

The first strategy is an attack coming from the government: imagine that your government is creating a FedCoin using all the resources available to improve and outtake the Blockchain protocol. Making Bitcoin obsolete.

The second one is tokenization of the entire economy: all business having their crypto. If you go to Walmart, you can pay with WalCoin for example. If you go to McDonalds, you could also pay with WalCoin that would convert into MacCoins.

The last strategy is an attack from a GAFAM (Google, Amazon, Facebook, Apple, Microsoft): This one is the most likely to happen. Imagine if one day Facebook create a Bitcoin Wallet that is user-friendly, secured, easy to use, and "trustable." Millions of users would switch from their wallet to this one for sure, giving Facebook enough power to force a Hard Fork that is benefits for them.

Naturally, all those scenarios are unlikely to succeed, but they are still possible in a certain way.
