Politics sucks, but what can I do? What should I do?

in #wisdom8 years ago

Politics is a topic around which you can easily spark some lively conversations. It is a neverending source of controversy and opinions. Often these conversations are negative, which in itself is harmful, and they never result in anything valuable. We think we feel better after blaming or mocking some politician, but I think it's the opposite. Rarely do the conversations help you make more informed decisions - in fact I can't remember a single instance.

I often genuinely ask the question: "What can we do about it?", when politicians have messed things up once again. Usually there is no answer.

There seems to be very intelligent individuals here. I would like to hear your thoughts about what we can do. This is a very general question and our answers might differ because our views on life and politics differ fundamentally - but nevertheless: What can and what should we do to make our societies, our workplaces, our countries and the world a better place?

Simple, keep asking that question and then actually do it... Whenever we encounter something we think is wrong with the world, we have a choice of trying to figure out a solution or just accept it (the third option, looking for someone to blame, is an utter waste of time and energy).

If in doubt, focus on improving yourself, your intelligence, knowledge, compassion and sense of humor.

As somebody much wiser than me once said: "Living well is the best revenge"

We can't do anything about it. Did't we ourselves created this world, which is competitive, overpopulated, full of violence, greed and envy? Did't we vote for this politicians? World around us is a mirror of ourselves.

Here is question. Maybe we should change ourselves and world will change? But who is asking which question? Is't it the same person who made this world so brutal and now wanting to change it's own did. We are confused and confused people made this world. We did. We are not separate. We are the world.

What can and what should we do to make our societies, our workplaces, our countries and the world a better place?

Consider your own bias, consider how you were raised, be a decent person, try to be optimistic towards the overall progression of society, spend a great deal of time understanding the historical context of the issues that we face, encourage people to get better, don't belittle people who might not understand the big picture, encourage transparency, encourage honesty, encourage being wrong for the reason of being presented an opportunity to find an answer and finally understand you very likely have very little clue what is going on either.

There are a few moral ideas in there that may not apply for some people -- I think they are important qualities as I constantly find relations between those ideas and successful leadership/education/political action.

Just two-three years back I was broke living out of a backpack. I'm not entirely sure how to fix things, but I know that the best thing that happened to me as an individual was being dirt poor, coming from nothing and gaining a perspective seemingly long forgotten. . .

That's the short story.

First requirement: Having an open and free marketplace of ideas. So we have to unite regardless of our politics against political correctness, sharia law, social media platforms that censors certain viewpoint and people who believe diversity of gender identity is more important than diversity of opinion.

Then, create educational and entertaining content in defense of your opinion so that it can complete in that market.

So @ned and @dan are actually doing while I am just thinking?

your discussion is a part of it :)
