Our Snowy Wonderland

in #winter7 years ago

We have woken up to quite a bit of snow. Here is what some of our place looks like under a blanket of mother earths beautiful white stuff.

Time to go for a walk and see how much snow there really is.

So far it doesn't look so bad.

The goats seem to be doing well. It is time for them to eat so they can stay warm.

Time to brush off the solar panels.

Mom feeds the birds so I need to uncover the birdhouse, add some feed so they will have something to eat as well.

Grace is taking this opportunity to go for a walk and have some adult time without the puppies. She loves to go for walks no matter what the weather.

There is our beautiful bush. Only a few months away and it will begin to sprout with life.

Time to go in and warm up by the fire.

Thanks for taking the time to see our winter wonderland. To all of you that are posting pictures of warm places. Keep up the good work. I love to see them.

Greetings fellow homesteader.

There are now over 300 of us on steemit. You might have seen if you follow me that I am visiting everyone on the list I maintain to see who is still active and who isn't.

Do check out the latest list - there might be another homesteader near you also on steemit :

Greetings. It is good to meet another fellow homesteader. 300 is a nice number, that means that we are growing. This makes me smile. I will check out the list.

Thanks

😊

Very cool... Snow view in the middle of the forest.
And you're a good caring goat because it looks has good health.
The thing to understand is solar panels... Where the sun comes to your house. lol..
In my future project, I'm thinking of covering all the roof of the house with solar panels. This will give me a lot of electric power and I won't need a power grid...
I enjoy walking with you.@carey-page. Waiting for more posts

Thanks, yes I was thinking of doing another walk with me when everything starts to melt and then as the forest grows. It is quite beautiful in each season. Our goats are doing well. We are going to put them in the bush this coming summer. They will do even better then.

Wow solar panels on the whole roof. That would be spectacular. Yes solar panels need to be south facing. That way they get most of the suns value.

Thanks so much.

Looks very tranquil. What part of the world are you from? All I know is I have 3 snowmobile's and not enough snow plus, it's supposed to be 53 degrees fahrenheit tomorrow. Send some that snow my way. Jeez, did I really just say that?

It is wonderful. Sorry I didn't say where I am from. I am from Alberta Canada. Wow 53 degrees Fahrenheit sounds wonderful right about now. We are at -26 Celsius which converts to -14 degrees Fahrenheit. I could send you some snow. We have enough. haha yes you might regret that statement of wanting me to send you some snow.

Where are you from?

I'm right at the northern Illinois/southeast Wisconsin border. On the IL side unfortunately. My thought is if I'm going to live where it's cold, might as well have snow. We just came out of a cold snap of single digit temps. Really have been getting the shaft with these winters. Only took the sleds out twice last year and we had snow for literally 3 days before it all melted. Hopefully we'll get some otherwise I'll definitely be trailering the sleds way up to northern WI. Stay warm!

I pray you get a good dump of snow so you can have a few days of fun. Enjoy and stay warm as well. Thanks so much.

Looks beautiful, glad the animals are okay, even the birds... <3 <3 The best looking thing is definitely that full wood stove!

Yes it is beautiful. Hard to get around in though. Yes all the animals are doing well. They don't like the cold temperatures but it will pass in a few days. You are right, the best thing is the wood stove. It is nice to come into a warm stove. Thanks

It snowed in my area (FL) for the first time in almost 30 years, but I can only imagine what it's like to get so much snow though!

Your homestead looks lovely and I'm envious of your woodstove. <3

Stay warm up there.

I heard that there was snow over there. How did it go? Did everything stop? We sometimes here reports that places get snow and everything has to stop until they can get it cleared. How much snow did you get? I hope it was ok and no power outages or anything like that.

The wood stoves are fantastic. That is how we heat our places in the winter. It is wonderful but by the time summer comes around we are happy to not have to stoke them.

It was less than an inch - but schools shut down! No power outages or anything crazy.
After a few hours it was like nothing happened.

wow that is amazing how fast it can come and go.

What a beautiful winter wonderland, just in a storybook. We finally get a break from the chilling cold of +5C (it's all relative ;-). Temperature has now returned to the normal +20C but will get cold again on the weekend. Thank you for sharing!

Yes it truly is all relative. Enjoy your break from the cold. We have a few more days of very cold weather here and then we will get up to a balmy -8 or something close to it. We will run around here is just a small coat . Thanks for your response.

amazing pictures , i love snow so much :)
thank you for sharing this awesome pictures

Thank you. I am glad you love snow. I don't mind it at the beginning. However come February I am ready for spring.

Very beautiful pictures, we still don`t have any snow in my city and I really miss it, I love snow especially in a festive period, it brings holiday mood.) I am sorry, I did not tell you that I am from Ukraine.

The Ukraine, your weather may be comparable to Canada. I hope it is a bit milder than what we get. Yes snow during the festive period is wonderful. It really does bring in the holiday mood. I am glad you liked the pictures.

This is how I fed goats last winter. I have an easier set up this winter.

Wow that is cool. How many goats do you have? Where do you live. Looks like there was quite a bit if snow there.

I currently have three goats, Lithe Solaris and Vesper. I am located in northeastern n.y. state usa. It was - 40 F with wind chill last week. We don't have as much snow as last year- so far. I am communicating with you and @wwf to help me learn how to use steemit. I feel like you two are a safe place to do that. If I do something incorrectly you two would set me straight without beating me up. Thank you

Your goats are beautiful. Yes -40 is cold. We just finished a spell of a few days of -40 to -45. That type of temperature is hard on the animals, well and people too.

I would love to help you in any way I can. Just ask. Steemit is a wonderful place and the people seem fantastic. It is quite a bit to learn all of the little things on steemit. I am still learning myself.

Lovely Carey, I am crying tears of relief and joy. I posted my introduction and the awesome helpful responses almost made me faint. I love my goats. They pick me up when I am feeling down. One thing I know how to do is keep myself and my animals warm when it is very cold. I am proud of that. I also need to say never worry about me. I also know how to hang in there when the going gets tough. My physical body is not the most important thing my spiritual self is. That is where my strength lies. I am surprised to say I think I will enjoy connecting with individuals on steemit.

It is good to have you in this community. Yes our animals can be very therapeutic. It is always wonderful to have animals around.

We are here as spiritual being having a physical experience. Our spirit is very important but remember that we need the physical vessel to help us carry out what we are doing here. We do need it to stay in good condition.

Kathy, if you ever have questions feel free to pm through facebook too. I can help you privately to guide you through it all. Can be daunting but worth while when you get your head wrapped around what this is all about.

Wwf, l am getting help from @marionbows also. I am picking things up much more quickly than I thought I would. I am way outside my comfort zone. That's right where I need to be. I am motivated to interact with individuals thru steemit. My introduction is posted it's simple. I will get better at adding depth as I gain confidence . Forever grateful to you. Kathy lee

Wonderful to hear. I look forward to reading it. Just ask and I will do what I can to help. <3

I can really understand what you are going through regarding you are way outside your comfort zone. It took me awhile to wrap my brain around it all. I also was very overwhelmed at just writing a post. Then @wwf was telling me to have conversations. I wasn't sure if I could do it. It definitely is a learning curve. Take care

You really did a great job to put the feelings of those animals into consideration by finding means to keep them warmth. I guess Grace really had a great walk that day

Yes Grace did. She loves to get out and these days she doesn't get out much due to the puppies. We need to take care of the animals and everything for that matter. Thanks
