Without Wifi 没有无线网络

Wifi is almost inevitable for the people living in the contemporary society. However, there are still some who neither utilise the social media nor bother about wifi. I have overseas friends who are among the older generations. When I contact them, I could only call their line phones as they do not use WhatsApp, WeChat, Messenger etc.

Beside some people living in the developed nations who still utilise older mode of communication, there are people living in the remote area who cannot access wifi. As I write this article, I am in a remote area about an hour drive away from the city. It is a place without wifi and handphone signal. Today, there are still quite many people who are not contactable through social media.

Using wifi and social media through gadgets has indeed changed the world comparing to what it was a few decades ago. It has changed the way of communication and affected human relationship. Some people seem to enjoy living in their virtual world of internet and laptop and smartphones. And they are afraid to have “face to face” communication with people. We are so near to one another through social media, but actually we can be alienated from one another.

Therefore, we should take into consideration those who have no access to wifi or have phobia towards social media if we like to get connected with the community at large. The presence of a group of people without wifi is also a reminder for us that the “face to face” communication is still a must for the formation of a society of love and intimacy. I remember there are times I am overseas and my wife is at home. We try to communicate daily using the social media. We talk to one another and we are able to hear one another as if we are together. But the frustration is that we are not physically being together. And we look forward to be really together again. Hence, the utilisation of wifi and social media should be encouraged with a self-awareness of its limitation to our life together. Indeed, it is good to be without wifi at time so that we can reflect and be tilted towards having better relationship with people.

对于现代的人来说，无线网络几乎是不可缺少的。然而，今天仍有一些人没有使用社交媒体和无线网络。我还有老一辈的海外朋友，当我联络他们时，我只能拨打他们的有线电话，因为他们不使用WhatsApp，WeChat，Messenger等。

除了有些生活在偏远地区的人无法应用无线网络，而一些生活在发达国家的人也仍然使用旧式的联络方式。当我写这篇短文时，我处在距离城市约需一小时车程的偏远地区，这是一个没有无线网络和缺乏手机信号的地方。的确，今天仍然有很多人无法通过社交媒体彼此联系。

通过现代小工具使用无线网络和社交媒体，世界与几十年前相比已然不同，它改变了沟通的方式，也因此影响了人际关系。有些人似乎很喜欢生活在互联网、笔记本电脑和智能手机的虚拟世界中，他们害怕与人进行“面对面”的交流。我们通过社交媒体很方便联系，但实际上我们却非常疏远。

如果我们想与整个社区建立联系，我们应该考虑那些无法使用无线网络或对社交​​媒体存有恐惧的人。如今仍存在一群没有无线网络的人提醒了我们，“面对面”的沟通仍然是形成爱与亲密社会的必要条件。记得有时我在海外，而我的妻子在家。我们使用社交媒体进行日常的沟通，我们彼此交谈，我们能够清楚听到对方，就像我们在一起一样。但令人沮丧的是，事实上我们并没有在一起，我们只能期待再次相聚。所以，我们雖然鼓励利用无线网络和社交媒体，但是也要意识到它对我们生活造成的限制。事实上，在没有无线网络的情况下也有好处，因为它会促使我们反思与他人的关系，並要建立面对面的联系。
