[WHISKY TASTING] Bowmore 12 🥃
The last time I wrote about Bowmore I was far from impressed. This time we'll try a truly classic malt from the same distillery. If you want to know more about the Bowmore distillery, one of the oldest in Scotland, I refer you to my article on the Bowmore Black Rock.
Bowmore 12 is bottled at a boring 40% and is both chill-filtered and colored with E150. They use a combination of ex-Bourbon and ex-Sherry casks (predominantly Bourbon casks.)
ABV: 40%
Age: 12yo
Region: Islay
Cask type: ex-Bourbon and ex-Sherry casks
Price: Around 45 USD / 0.7L
Appearence: Pale gold (but hey, who cares since it's artificial?)
Nose: Wonderful dry peat smoke together with brine and fresh oysters. Modest, but clear. Slight sweetness of ripe nectarines and hazelnut spread. Very clean and fresh nose altogether.
Palate: Much weaker on the palate. I kinda regret that I had a whisky of 46% earlier in the day. A nice balance between the mellow and delicate smokiness and the distillery character of oranges and lime and a slight spiciness from the wood. There's also some tropical fruit; predominantly pineapple. I expected it to be more briny and salty due to the nose. Quite oily and fat mouth-feel.
Finish: Medium-long and very pleasant with citrus sweetness and light smoke. No bitterness or burnt notes whatsoever.
Conclusion: This is a very pleasant, mellow, concerted and well balanced 12 year old from nose to after-taste. A good whisky if you want to convince somebody of Islay malts. Rather start here than with pungent and stinky smoke-monsters. But as always, I wish they'd bottle it at 46% (remember that alcohol is a carrier of flavor.) A good everyday whisky with a final score of 84 out of 100.
Extraordinary work dear friend @steemswede the images are very beautiful, thanks for sharing
Your whisky collection must be incredible :-) Though I am not really a whisky drinker myself, I enjoy your reviews very much :-)
I salute you for your considerable insight into whiskey.
I think you can be called a real professional because you call someone who has a lot of knowledge in any field.
