My First We-Write! Bulbs of Summer

This is my first We-Write/Freewrite, and it was a lot of fun. I used to do challenges like this in school, but this was extra special for two reasons. Like I said, it’s my first 5-minute Freewrite for Steemit, and even better I partnered up with my mom @ntowl!

For this “bulb” story, I wrote the beginning and she wrote the ending. 🌷🌹

The Beginning by @zeldacroft:

Cooled by a gentle summer breeze, Barbara stood up and gave her garden an approving look. Spread before her was greenery of the seasons, from the now grown spring flowers to the little buds of her autumn crops. Only one small patch of soil was empty, sitting tucked away under the shade of an ancient maple tree. With a woven basket in one hand and her favorite trowel in the other, she strolled down to the spot.

Thoughtfully, she plotted small holes for her last addition: golden flowers of summer. Delicately, the promising bulbs were taken out of the basket and placed in their new homes. Barbara hoped they would thrive here. Patting the dirt over the little plant babies, she smiled and gazed out to the nearby fields.

The Ending by @ntowl:

From her garden on the hill she routinely gazed out into the nearby farming fields that had been left fallow for many years. She enjoyed being surrounded by the huge green meadows. It left her feeling hugged by nature.

But today something was different. At first she wasn’t sure what she saw. It was a patch of field that looked a little bit different than the rest.

The usual waving grassland came to an abrupt stop. The ground looked like it had been pressed down into a circle. It hadn’t been like that yesterday.

Then she caught a glimpse of a shimmer filling the space. The silvery mirage-like effect stopped nearly as quickly as it began. In its place sat a grey dome that began rotating before it lifted from the ground.

She heard nothing as it rose higher before shimmering into
invisibility once again.

She fell back onto her hill, landing hard on her butt. Nature would never feel the same again.

Wow, I normally expect her to add a sci-fi or fantasy twist, but she really surprised me with the crop circle creation! If you want to see the twist I added to hers, be sure to check out @ntowl’s post. While ours had unplanned similarities, it’s interesting to see how they also ended up quite different from each other.

Thanks for reading! 😊
