Pretty bulbs: A We-write story
I'm so excited to write for this contest with my daughter @zeldacroft! She's brandy new to Steemit and still learning the ropes but I think you'll see she fits right in.
In this entry I began the story and she finished it.
The Beginning by @ntowl:
Heather reached into the box and pulled out the last bulb. Before she plunked it into the ground she took one last look at the odd shape and color. It was about the twice the size as the typical tulip bulbs she’d planted every year. And it had blue and red stripes that shimmered in the sunlight - just a hint so you couldn’t be sure you saw it or not. The very bottom had milky white roots. It had an alien feel.
She’d been gardening for 35 years and thought she’d seen everything. But this anonymous gift of bulbs arrived on her doorstep earlier that day and proved to be quite a surprise. She had no idea who had sent them.
Covering up that last bulb, she stood and wiped her knees and hands. Excitement filled her when she thought of what they would look like next spring.
The ending by @zeldacroft:
It was only a matter of days before Heather realized these were not
like any bulbs she had ever seen, or even heard of, before. Growing
at a shockingly quick rate, many of them were already producing tulip
buds. The stalks were an iridescent blue, and those buds were near
softball size.Filled with curiosity and the thrill of something truly new, she went
out the next day to find the bunch were now 3 feet tall, their buds
seeming nearly bursting at basketball size. In the corner of her eye
she saw one was trembling, as if about to explode and unleash its new
tulip glory.With a cartoonish pop it sprouted forth, its petals a myriad of blues
and reds. Upon taking a step closer she was shocked to find a small,
sparkly, purple puppy cuddled in its velvety cocoon.All of a sudden the other flowers blossomed as well, each with their
own perplexingly present puppy. They each yawned and crawled out, the
pack instinctively gathering around Heather. With happy tears at the
sheer cuteness, she sent a thought of gratitude towards her mystery
gifter. Taking some up in her arms, they all happily plodded back to
the cozy farmhouse.
Oh what fun to be surrounded by sparkly purple puppies! I want one!
