Favorite Snack Roasted Chick Peas - Wellness Wednesday by A Panama Mama

in #wellnesswednesday7 years ago (edited)

Last Wednesday, we talked about one of our favorite new snacks, dehydrated bananas. Perhaps you tried out their yummy goodness for yourself this last week or it’s on your to do list. Let me add another one to it!

Another favorite snack of mine and the kids is roasted chick peas. These are also known as garbanzo beans. They are sooooo easy to make and so yummy! Another great thing is they are better for you than eating a bag of chips!

One good thing about them is you can flavor them however you’d like. I usually use garlic salt, salt and parmesan cheese – I don’t measure – you can always add more after they have cooked if they aren’t seasoned enough. I have read about people putting cinnamon and sugar on them, but I haven’t tried that. Paprika or another hot spice will turn them spicy! We like ours extra crispy, but they are also yummy with a crispy shell and soft center. Okay, here is how to make them.

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F, get your ingredients ready, and oil the bottom of a baking sheet (or use a silicone mat).

  2. Drain and rinse the chickpeas. (Also tasty like this, but we prefer them crunchy!)

  3. Put them on the baking sheet and sprinkle with the toppings you have chosen.

  4. Bake in the oven for 30-40 minutes on the middle rack. Take them out and swirl them around a little a few times during baking to make sure they don’t stick. They will dry up and turn extra crunchy the longer they are left in there. Keep an eye on them!

  5. Remove from oven and let them cool off. If you have any left to store, use an airtight container. (Mine were accidentally cooked for 50 minutes and my husband turned off the toaster when they started popping. Super crispy and yummy still!)

Let me know if you try these! They are so yummy!

We like ours spicy and extra crispy. Yummy.

The kids told me they didn't like the burned ones tonight but they chomped right through the whole batch! I made some recently and cooked them on too low of a temp and they were sort of mushy on the inside but still tasty. I guess you can't get these wrong! :)

Healthy !!!! I love chickpeas. Makes you fart a lot too.

Okay, good to know. Lol! :)

This looks like something my wife would really enjoy!

Yes - they are tasty! She (and you) would like them! :)

Can't wait to try this! I have one really picky, potato chip loving child that I am always foisting new, healthier snack options on, lol! You're awesome!

Yea! I hope it works out for you! We think they are mighty tasty! All the kids come back for more! :)
