Welcome to Steemit: Find your people

Do you love to to create content?
Do you sit in a coffee shop while the owner glares at you for using his wifi?
Are you tired of being around people who don’t get you?
Did you get paid for those 100 likes on the story you spent two months working on?
Do you take coffee to be your lord and savior?
Do you have adhd like…

I had joined steemit way back in June of last year. The words blockchain meant nothing to me but the concept seemed fascinating. Here are my five phases of steemit:

  1. The Trending Page Glance - So, you’re new and like most social media you go directly to the trending page. While the steemit trending page could do with a few tweaks, the payout amounts have you spellbound.

  2. Day-dreaming - That pesky boss, the monotonous work, no more of that. When you start earning enough from steemit, you’re going to be your own boss.

  3. Getting Lost- What’s a dolphin? What’s the difference between Steem power and steem dollars? What does powering up mean?

  4. The Accidental Re-steem

  5. Telling everybody you know about steemit, including your mom. Then your mom asks so many questions

Q: But how do you make money?
A: Mom, you create good content and throw it out for the universe to digest. If it doesn’t upset their tummy, they give you an upvote. If it makes their tummy runny, they give a downvote.

Then mom wrote her first blog about Quantum Mechanics.
It’s payout was 0.01 courtesy a vote from her ever loving daughter.

Mom was discouraged so she asked me,

Q.How do I talk to the people on steemit?
A. While steemit chat is one option, another is Discord. Find a blog you like, most of them mention their community and give a link to the server. Once you’re on discord say good-bye to your social life. I haven’t seen mom in days. The umbilical cord stays.

She found a group of baby boomers. Now, she chats with them everyday and loves writing, not for the SBD but for her Community.

This brings me to the one word that makes you want to stay and helps you grow - Community. Sometimes, taglines are not cliches and none more so than in this context.

I’ll take you on a journey of five communities that rock!

Minnow Support Project: Are you lost, confused, can’t distinguish SBD from STD, did you accidentally resteem something and it’s now on the blockchain forever? msp helps with that (except the last, you might apply for a miracle). @aggroed created this safe haven for planktons to meet the other diversity in the sea. The hosts are patient and will answer your queries. Just don’t ask them about their mole.
This server helps you find your feet on steemit.

Bonus: Check out the radio shows for some great music. You can find the schedule here

discord

The Writers Block: Are you a writer? Do people never “get” you? Do you want to talk to fellow mad people running on coffee? The Writers Block is your holy grail. A group of funny, charming people that help out with editing and polishing your content. They pride ourselves on the quality of what we put out there. Currently, they are looking for people to join their curation trail. Writing a piece of fiction and poetry takes a long time, if you enjoy good writing please contact @gmuxx or @rhondak

Bonus: The writing exercises and advice from published authors in this peer to peer learning network is invaluable.
Discord

Helpie- Created by @meno, this community is small but has a big heart. It is a healthy mix of promising minnows, seasoned steemians and @pechichemena the porky mascot. Some of the best musicians, homesteaders, writers, cookie stealers hide in this group. Entry to helpie is by request.

Bonus: This is a drama free space. Gif wars are awesome!

Curie - I had joined Curie as a perspective curator a month back. If you see a curie curator, send them a virtual hug. One of the most hard working group of people, who make sure that talent always comes out at the top. Painstakingly going through blogs, verifying its contents, and deeming it’s originality in collaboration with a bunch of subject matter experts.

Bonus: The first time I saw the power of Curie. I went to sleep with my post at 0.94 payout and woke up with the post at a 100 payout. I’d spent a week writing it, not expecting much but just happy with my story.

Comedy Open Mic- Last, but never the least is a community that I delegate to and provides steemians with “comic relief” by offering you advice about marriage, hiding your pot stash, hiding in the bush, hiding your pot stash in a bush, how to stop saying bush and all sorts of non bush related advice.

Bonus: Their basement has food.

Oh my!! this is just comedy gold! I can imagine the mom especially in Discord!! Well maybe not my mom because she would go fix the grammar of everyone so I have to imagine another person's mom haha
The use of memes was just awesome

This is great. So clear and really funny. There is so much about Steemit in a chew-able format.

Yes. good to see some serious post from you again ;)
No, seriously. Keep writing. I miss your stories, even though I read a new one at least every week. They're a special kind of unique that is exactly my type. That I think is the power of Steemit... to have met you on a square in Amsterdam, people from acorss the universe meeting through a weird blockchain/fake money/place full of dolphins who want to be whales. Keep at it!

This is freakin' fabulous, dear. It's the post I've been peripherally wanting to pen for ages, yet haven't had the gusto nor time to undertake. Thank you for doing it for me – now I can share this with all the folks I've onboarded, including my own Mum. :)

BTW – you're awesomein case I don't tell you that enough.
