Here are some tips to keep a story coherent.
Create a document for the main characters you note down every attribute you give them.
The same with for location(s).
And create a timeline. Some people use sticky notes and keep track of the main events. Like the suggestive "ticket" the police officer gave her and so forth. That way, you know what happened when.
