Greetings, everyone
This is my entry to #WeekendFreewrite organized by @mariannewest. Prompts in bold italics. I stuck to the five minutes per prompt.

She was looking, first to the right, then to the left - just like her forefathers had taught her.
It was the force of habit, a pointless practice now that the whole town (probably the whole country) was deserted.
It was hard to accept that she was the only living creature around, just as it had been hard for earthlings to accept that they were the only planet hosting life in the whole universe.

Everything happened so fast, she still thought her mother’s kiss would wake her up from this nightmare. Nobody thought some sort of flu from the other side of the world would travel so far and so fast and kill millions by the minute.
Fortunately for her, there were plenty of supplies around. It was any kid’s fantasy to enter a super market and take whatever she pleased for free. But obviously this did not make her any less miserable. She missed her parents, her sister, and her friends.

All electronic devices were useless now. Whoever was still alive did not have access to broadcasting systems. The peace and quiet she longed so much had become a torturous silence. She might have survived the virus, but she was not sure she could handle utter solitude.

The scratching noises became louder and louder and it sounded like wood was splintering..
Like the character from Poe’s story, she felt as if all her senses had been magnified. She could hear every single noise from miles away. After the corpses decomposed and the stench faded away, the smells from water, wind, and forest were back and everything hit her brain with impressing power.

Because both humans and animals around, as far as she could tell, had died, the noises became predictable in a way. She could tell one from the other. These scratching sounds were different. She wasn’t sure she wanted to find out where they came from.

Her instincts told her to take cover on high ground, but her curiosity took her one block after the other around her neighborhood, each corner sending flashbacks of recent memories. She grabbed her gun tightly and continued following the noises looking this and that way, as she was taught.

Blood dripping. She could hear blood dripping. How she knew, it was beyond her; she just knew it. She could smell the blood too and she could smell danger and fear. Whatever was out there was hurt and that made it doubly dangerous.

She got to the entrance of a pet store. It looked intact from a safe distance, but as she approached it, she saw the stains on the floor. Whatever was there had come from North Main; that’s where the military hospital was. She took aim at the door, pushed gently, and got inside.

She saw the big black furry animal munching at some dog food spread all over the floor. It was bleeding, but the sound she had heard did not come from it. On the east wall of the store there was a window and there was something hanging from it half way out. It was probably a predator that messed up with the wrong prey. Its blood was still dripping, thick and dark like the night that was approaching.

Her last step revealed her presence to the hungry beast, which turn around and growled.

Thank you very much, guys .

Great story, buddy! Well done!

Thank you! :)

Oh... I didn't notice it was actually three guiding phrases. Whoops )))

Yep. There's the single prompt challenge and this one, which I avoided for a while, but which I now find irresistible.

You did a great job following all the directions. I missed the second and the third condition. Therefore my write up went astray. )))

I would not say that. I was actually going to write from a similar perspective. Crossing the road is hard for humans, it must be a nightmare for animals whose habitats have been invaded by humans and their monstrous machines.
I guess you could still add to that great story you started the other two prompts. I'm sure the result will be fantastic.

Nice one! So timely with the corona virus scare going around. ^_^ Enjoyed reading this. I wonder what happens next! :))

Thank you. Yes, I could not help make the association with the Coronavirus. If it is as lethal as some people say, I know that some countries, like mine, lacking the minimum health infrastructure, will be zombie land if hit by it.
