Anthony Burris Green traced one jagged fingernail along the railing. Then, he opened the knife. Shut it. An opened it again. Was that supposed to be threatening?, Sebastián thought so, but it was necessary to speak with the smuggler, so he buried his worrying behind the most stone-faced expression he could muster, and walked towards the man.

You bloody late friend, I don’t like it when whelps like you keep me waiting.

It’s always late when you are rushing, isn’t it?, in any case, what have you gotten for me?

The shady man looked around, closed his knife one last time and put it inside a pocket. He made a signal to the other one to follow, and they started walking to where the shadows were ticker, a small crevice between buildings, so close to the main street, but covered enough to not be noticed. The best place to hide a criminal den?, right under the noses of the authorities, but also, this was just an entrance, a dark and labyrinthine passageway made to confuse anyone who wasn’t part of the organization.

Sebastián never wanted to get into contact with Burris Green or his people, but with official ships prohibited to come and go from the Island, this smugglers were the only option to get what he needed, to save one person in particular, and many others trough that.

Here we are mate –he said while opening a door in a seemingly solid stonewall- But before we close the deal, mind telling me what are ya gonna do with a pint of Starshine Dew?, this stuff is expensive and not too tasty.

Sebastian looked at him at his curious but threathening face, and tought about the balck maze behind him. A shiver ran down his spine, but he remembered

Well…

Meanwhile, Nellie woke. Not due to moonlight, but because of her dream. A dream of weirdly colored fire, twisted perspectives and a feeling of mad power she felt intensely, hot until the point her veins felt like bursting into flames. The ghosts were at it again, pulling some demonic strings hooked right into her very soul. She embraced herself.

Where was Sebastián?, she remembered him saying that he would be back soon with a solution, one of the very few things she actually remembered from this waking life and not her dreams. But it was night already, and the pale light that filtered trough her windows told her that it was a clear night, of moon and stars, of witchcraft and spirits. It may be better that way, he was a mage too, a good one.

Nellie...” –a disembodied womanly voice said, sickenly sweet and too close to her ear. “Nellie dear it’s about time, wake up and fly, wake up and tell everyone what you are…”. –She didn’t want to hear, but the hotness in her veins, the pulsing in her head, the beating of her heart… maybe it was time to stop pretending, who was Nellie either way?. The window opened silently, and moonlight shone freely on a pair of leathery wings.

"She ain't what you think", was the very emphatic comment of that man. He knew the girl, and he avoided her. When Sebastián had mentioned the girl’s name to Burris Green, he grabbed a hold of some amulet he kept around his neck and under his clothes, and whispered some words that seemed like a prayer.

He knew that Nellie wasn’t all that innocent, he, by virtue of his own dreams, knew that hers were something else. He did want to save whatever was true of the sweet flower girl he found lost in the forest some nights ago, but if his suspicions were true, he would count himself lucky if the only dead one was her.

I know, but if someone doesn’t do something, your necklace won’t protect you from what will come, now, can you give the brew?”. –A second of doubt, of mistrust, and the mage snatched the swirly silver liquid from the other man’s hands. He was escorted back to the surface, and all the meanwhile, he wished he had an amulet of his own, with powers or without them, it would be something to hold on to.
