Here's a Weed You Might Want to Try

Did you know.... There's a weed that coud have similar effects cannabis has on the
endocannabinoid system of the human body?

This weed is easier to plant and legal on all parts of the word as compared to cannabis that is regulated.

Coneflower (Echinacea) is a perennial herb from the Daisy family that can withstand hot, dry conditions and shrug off the cold.

It attracts butterflies, repels deer, and provides nourishment for bids from seeds. The Echinacea also makes a great cut flower.

Coneflower – Echinacea is well-known for its ability to help the body fight off the common cold. It is also used to relieve anxiety, fatigue, migraines, and arthritis.

Echinacea is a bit different than cannabis because it uses cannabimimetics instead of cannabinoids to engage the endocannabinoid system, particularly the CB2 receptor. Similar to THC in cannabis, the N-alkyl amides (NAAs) in echinacea are responsible for regulating the immune system, pain and inflammation.

Coneflowers (Echinacea) thrive in summer heat and butterflies and hummingbirds love them.

Cultivation: Sow in greenhouse trays or directly in the ground in early spring. Germination is usually 2-3 weeks. To improve the germination rate, cold condition (stratify) the seeds for two weeks prior to planting (see the link in the article below to learn more about stratification). Echinacea typically doesn’t flower the first year (when grown from seed) and needs two to three years growth before the roots are ready to harvest. The seeds are relished by gold finches and will self-sow if left on the plant over winter. Echinacea purpurea is an herbaceous perennial, plant in full sun, 1-2’ apart, grows to 3-4’ tall. Plants can also be divided in the early spring or fall; a piece of the root with a bud and few inches of root is sufficient for starting a new plant.

This is an amazing, beautiful plant. I once grew 800 pounds of echinacea root and sold it all at $8/lb to The Herb Company in San Francisco. Today, I'm harvesting seed from the plants I sowed this year. Going to be lanting lot more of this plant and want to make tinctures. echinacea.jpg

Wow, glad to hear someone's earning from coneflower farming... i'm hoping more and more people will learn its value so that people like you would benefit from the industry it would create. Thank you for sharing
