Sights of Manchester
Since I started writing on the STEEM blockchain, I take much more notice of my surroundings. I only mentioned this to @bozz yesterday.
We have a tendency to slam on the car brakes as there’s something appealing or different to photograph or see roadside, or continually stop if we notice something interesting. It’s like we are all mini journalists.
I once dated an ex-married woman whose ex was a journalist. My view on them at the time was somewhat likened to the common parasite.
I saw Diana, Princess of Wales hounded by them and lose her life and perhaps this had hardened my opinion.
She got all pissed off with me when I stated my opinion but that’s all water under the bridge now. The woman was a complete fucking psycho and I hope we never cross paths again.
Maybe one day I’ll do a series named, ‘The Psycho Women Chronicles of Slobberchops’, but then again, probably not.
So now I am the journalist, but not the kind who chase celebrities down motorways. Should I retake my opinion?
Several weeks ago I found myself with some time to kill AGAIN, as @bingbabe was running yet another half-marathon around the city of Manchester.
After seeing her off, I dislocated myself from the crowds and started a walkabout.
Trams seem to be the big thing in cities now. Fewer cars and more public transport, it makes sense.
Queen Victoria was staring down at me disapprovingly, not realising she is full of pigeon shit and accommodating one such bird on her right shoulder.
The graffiti is no way on par with Leicester, and this bee was a far cry from the sights I witnessed during SteemCamp 2.
I wonder if this could have been a decent explore before it was demolished. What do the owners of the ‘other’ building think about all the surplus ‘bits of wall’ now stuck to their property?
You won’t get murdered going down a side street like this in Manchester, but I still would prefer to avoid such places.
Still, parts of the city have been revamped since I was a teen. These fountains in Piccadilly Gardens did not used to exist.
Vaping seems to be trendy now and is being marketed as ‘cool'. I have enough vices and will continue to keep my distance from anything smoke related.
The street sellers did not seem to be busy.
Debenhams is a large department chain. They have recently gone into administration which is similar to Chapter 13 in the US; they are about to go bust. This one has been here forever, you can see by the architecture that it’s from another time.
The amount of rough sleepers has increased significantly in the last few years. This is a normal scene nowadays.
I wanted to grab some breakfast here but @bingbabe was not interested. ‘The place is empty’, she cried. Yes, that is a valid point.
House of Fraser is another department store that has been recently saved from going bust. This is one of the flagship stores. How much longer before they all vanish from the town centres?
Here are a few more snaps I took before collecting her after almost 2 hours. You have to make the most of your time and I now can submit this for the #wednesdaywalk.

What a lovely Wednesday walk @slobberchops, I just love old building, so full of character! It's so true what you say about how Steemit makes one so much more aware of the world around us! Even my hubby now stops at times to point out a photo opportunity!
I to could do a similar post on the Physcho woman in my wife but like you I also probably never will
I was into photography before joining Steemit, but I just shared photos and never said much about them, so I have changed to try and make my posts more of a blog than a series of photos.
What a cool selection of shots from your walk, I love that Bee Murla especially
Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :)
There's plenty of them about, best not to speak of such things here :)
Those are some great looking old buildings. We have some similar to that in one of the cities near me. Most of them just have small shops or they have been turned into residential places. None of the huge department stores like there used to be. Nice pictures!
The big stores are still there, but I see them all closing at some point. There's endless empty shops now in what you call 'malls'. Is it the same there?
We were in that neck of the woods last week for a few days. I haven't been to Manchester for years, but when we go to Huddersfield, the M62 runs so close to Manchester you feel as if you're almost there. The buildings look a bit drab though.
It's not a picturesque place by any means. Parts are rundown, and buildings and cafe's I remember going to when younger are now boarded up.
Still, there' s always something to photograph... if you look :)
Goodness, things are starting to look like a modern commentary of an economic depression in Manchester.
It's not the best looking place in the UK :)

Many of the stores in the malls that are still going are dropping off. So many of the stores have shuttered. There biz has been destroyed by Amazon.
Hiya, @itchyfeetdonica here, just swinging by to let you know that this post made into our Daily Travel Digest #532.

I like this style of post - a story built around photographs where the words help to navigate but don't do the driving. Finding the balance and the sequencing of flowing words and pix seems to be the required skill here :D.
I've got a soft spot for Manchester, it's where my parents met in the 60s. I avoid the vapes too, although I enjoy smoking the same herb that bird-shitty Queen Vicky used for her period pains lol. No vice IMO, pure pleasure.
Funny btw, just as I was typing this Gina notified me that you had upvoted my post (a similar kind of photo story)......wey hey for synchronicity [edit: on reflection I guess you were responding to my upvoting of this post....innit? :)]
I'm at work right now so can't really read your post.. so yes in this case it was.., I try not to ignore people if I can. :)
This was an exercise in killing time.., I find there's always something to see if you look, something I never used to do before joining Steemit.
I guess when you 'kill' time then you go 'out of' time and therefore see things you otherwise wouldn't when you are 'in time'...........but it's gotta be successfully 'killed' otherwise it turns into boredom, at least in my past experience.
Thanks for not ignoring me, although I don't mind when it happens (current deficit -159). Commenting is often a state-of-mind thing for me and I don't do it as often any more.
There is something so sad to me about the grafitti and stickers on the base of the Queen's statue. I feel were I transported there from before WWII was finished I would think, "Well I guess we didn't win the war, look at the state of this place". Well, that's time travel for you I suppose.
