Wednesday Walk: A Clear Path

in #wednesdaywalk5 years ago (edited)

Going outside this morning I see the Blue Jay is checking out the squirrel and eyeing the floor of the back deck to see if any food left.

The little red squirrel, Junior, is not too concerned about the Blue Jay.

Junior is more worried about another squirrel chasing him away. He has already lost the tip of his normally bushy tail in a fight.

We had above freezing temperatures for a few days and the pathways at back of house are clear.

At the corner of the house is the little tree I planted to replace the one that blew over in a fierce snow storm.

The original tree that was at the corner of the house. It blew over in a wind and snowstorm and broke off near the base. It had to be dug up and removed.

Howdy redheadpei! those are some awesome photos. That little squirrel looks so cute and tiny. Do you think another squirrel bit the end of his tail off?

Thanks Cowboy. These little squirrels are very territorial and chase the invading squirrel and pull at his tail.
I’ve seen some with just a stub of a tail left. Without their tail they lose a lot of balance.

really! wow, those squirrels are mean, I had no idea they did that to each other!

What a great shot of the Blue Jay and the squirrel. Looks like spring is almost on it's way to you, green grass path showing. We had another snow yesterday, but it should also be getting close to the end of the snow season, just another month or two to go.

Thanks @bashadow. We had a few mild days but old man winter is not through with us yet. 😊

I wish he would be done with us, we drove south to Homer today, and they are almost in Spring, very little snow left, and like your place some of last years green grass showing through in spots.

Wow what beautiful photos. such vibrant colours in that cold weather setting. 🦋🌈🌴💛🍀

Very nice photo's especially the blue jay! Great capture off it's colours!!

Welcome JJ and thanks for your support and fab contest. 😊

MY Pleasure and have a great day

Great blue jay and squirrel pictures!

Great backyard walk photos! I hate losing trees, and I have several that I think will have to be taken down this year due to ash borers. I need to get busy planting new ones too.
Poor Junior! The female gray squirrels at my house have less than magnificent tails this time of year, but it's because they pull the hair to line their nests for their new babies. You can usually tell the male and females apart that way. Gray squirrels don't do a whole lot of fighting! Those little red squirrels must be scrappers!

Thanks Melinda. I hated to lose that tree and also lost the other one on the other side. Our trees become like old friends.
The red squirrels are really territorial. I saw one where the tail was down to a stub and he still wouldn’t leave the more aggressive squirrel’s territory. The resident squirrel would chase him and pull at his tail.

When I lived further north I had red squirrels on one side of the yard and on the other side of the house was where the gray squirrels lived. They never crossed territories. Those little red guys can be ferocious!

Congratulations! Your post was selected by the @dropahead Curation Team (dCT)

Your first photo is a jewel, it is worth all the praises that my limited English proficiency allows me to create :)
The quality of that first shot is on the same level that the ones I see in Natgeo :)

Thanks for sharing them, best regards.
