Nice pictures from your walk.
In the US I see piles of rocks (cairns) fairly regularly. Sometimes they are used to denote the path to follow. Sometimes they are just hikers having fun and adding to the pile started by others before them.
Ahh that must be it and then people (including me) felt the need to add more :) tha ks for stopping by the post!
