Baggies Beach

Sand Between The Toes ~ Wednesday Walk Underfoot!

With 2 500 kilometers of coastline, South Africa offers amazing beaches, not forgetting to mention good waves for surfers, excellent diving sites, fishing, yes life's a beach let's go sea!

Anyone living near Durban will know or heard of Baggies Beach, looking South down the coast to Winklespruit Beach

Most beaches near towns will always be busy with people visiting all year, holiday seasons holiday makers arrive in their droves from inland destinations, especially Durban where we have warmer conditions all year.

Looking North up the coast toward Amanzimtoti/Bluff/Durban eventually over many hills, nooks and crannies.

A little about the area Warnadoone, Baggies Beach, Warner Beach are all one and the same place with the Warnerdoone ski-club where deep sea fishing boats launch from have their clubhouse, a popular natural tidal rock pool for paddling children. a bit of snorkeling exploring marine creatures is fun.

Check for sea urchins, they are washed in, stings can be extremely painful. We obviously we never experienced a bad sting since soap and water rinse appeared to clear it up at the time, no spines were evident to remove, after that we checked the pool before entering... very carefully!.

Stand Upon Sea Urchin ~ Learn the Highland Fling in Quick Step.... - Always in hindsight, make me smile, we can dance!).

Fishing off the rocks with a license is permitted, certain beaches allow dogs, both fishermen or dog owners please remember the beach is for everyone to enjoy, clean up your mess (bait, broken lines, dog poop), alcohol is banned in all public places, some tend to forget.

Along the banks of "Little Amanzimtoti River" that spills into the sea at this beach some Egyptian Goose together with a Woolly-necked Stork sitting quietly on the grass enjoying the morning sun, little specs in the next photo showing the birds, with river winding through here.

Taking brunch at Baggies Kiosk has become quite popular, in the early years it was more a place for only the surfers to grab a thick slice of bread with tomato sauce spread or similar to wash down with a coffee or cold drink before/after or during a day on the beach ripping up the surf.

Average meal, self service, most definitely not expensive, it never was meant to be a restaurant, it is a kiosk.

Long sandy streches and warm water of the Indian Ocean this little beach is popular with many, taking a look at the sea dunes covered in vegetation, including the end of flowering season of Aloe along the shoreline. In season and during summer I seldom visit this beach being popular attracting people from near and far.

Waves wishing you a day filled with nature wherever you live, keep walking, keep smiling, life is short enjoy each moment!

I am personally familiar with the quickstep dance... and fling! Oh, yikes. How I remember and will never forget.

The beaches are glorious there, how could they not be with such a perfect location and weather. There are trash cans all over. What is wrong with people?

It is a worldwide problem.

Lovely walk along your gorgeous beach. I have another house on the shore of Virginia, and I never go to the house or beach on the holidays or weather days. Too crowded and it takes me forever to get there because of traffic!

It was nice when we bought it!

Have a great day! !tip

When we were young dancing was something I loved, married a person with two left feet alas have not danced in years Denise.

We don't live right on the beachfront, always take a drive down which is no longer than 5 minutes to a few different beaches. Sadly the small towns are not so any more, pollution has got worse over the years, in season parking becomes a problem.

One thing we do plan is directly after rain to take a walk on the beach, normally a lot more fun easier on the legs with sand being firmer, always some method behind the madness!

Thank you @steemitworldmap this one is for surfers....

Lovely Wednesday beach walk @joanstewart! We sometimes take plastic bags along to pick up the litter, will people ever learn here in SA?
I've seen a couple of people do the highland fling with bluebottles, very apt description;)

The beach was clean this time, we have seen these beaches in a very sad way with filth. Everyone who goes down of late appears to be doing their bit with cleaning up, pity the ones throwing trash liberally away have not learned about keeping the environment clean.

When bluebottles wash up after windy season, keeping out of the water is safest, even walking on the beach you have to tip toe between them being barefoot.

Thanks for visiting @lizelle

Lots of fun things to see along that beach! We have to drive about 5 hours to get to any beaches, so it is nice to get a peek of one when I can. Tidal pools are definitely fun places to explore as long as you watch your feet. :) Though dog poop isn't any fun to step in either...

Inconsiderate people who don't clean up after them is a problem no matter where it takes place.

Tidal pools are wonderful to explore, right time to teach young children respect for the sea and everything living in the water.

Many families arrive with toddlers, imagine a fun day outing with a child standing in poop, or walking the rocks being caught up in fishing line, or worse stepping on a fishing hook ending up at a doctors to remove.

Ouch! Yes, people can really be so inconsiderate. Such a shame that so many beautiful spots are marred by our trash.

Enjoyed the walk

Took me a couple of seconds to get that proverb..haha
I think I got it....

Now to make the fire and find a pot @kaerpediem then you got it made!

Your beaches are so nice Joan. I like the story about the quick-step dance. I imagine that would hurt a bit.

Normally we don't go here too often they hold many surfing, wind-surfing competitions the place becomes packed with not enough parking. We go to quieter beach two stops down to walk, all the beaches are great.

I love watching the windsurfers when I visit my son in Panama. That is one sport that looks really hard to me.

Windsurfing, kitesurfing and flat round disk boards the children use in low water skiing across the beach are all fascinating sports on the beach Wanda.

I would love watching the little ones play in the surf.

I think NZ has you beat with coastlines i think we have 15000 KM of coastline but then we are just two small islands in the middle of the ocean LOL but I think you have a lot warmer winters for the mots parts making your beaches more inviting year round

I have done the urchin dance a few times myself not fun at all

What beautiful shots of this beautiful area

Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :)

Distance beats us hands down! Two islands a lot more coastline for sure, another very pretty part of the world, @nickyhavey has been sharing his trip, amazing country.

Encountered stepping on an urchin once, once was enough!

Areas up and down our coast have many extremely popular spots for a variety of water sports, thanks for visiting @tattoodjay.

Yes I have seen a few of Nicky’s post makes me homesick at times

This spot you shared with us today is so beautiful I can see why it would be popular

New Zealand is just a magical place. I fell a little bit in love and hope it's not too long until I go back again, maybe for longer than 5.5 weeks 🙂

Posted using Partiko Android

I hope you are able to get back there and if you do I look forward to seeing more of your shots from there
