RE: Wednesday Walk-Yard Work

in #wednesdaywalk7 years ago

Well, you know, you just gotta love the desert! It has some of the most interesting landscape to make up for the lack of grass and vegetation.

Curious George is a prime example. How many people can get away with that one? These yards all have character and charm and yes! They truly garner attention as you are walking on by. How can you not?

Yuma is one of those special places that many military retirees wander to, with the Marine Corps Air Station there, and the fact that Yuma specializes in air-to-ground flying training for US and NATO forces, I am pretty sure the facilities are still of a good size. So, it makes for a great place to spend winters.

Thank you for sharing your walk with us! You have a most interesting neighborhood and I find it refreshing to see that yard on the run, one that changes the scenery on a regular basis. With all the walkers nowadays, it is fun to change up the scenery like that. I love that horse! :)

Thanks again and I hope you have a most wonderful Thursday!

Yuma is said to have more flagpoles per capita than anyplace in the country. It's not just Marines that retire here, lots of Navy and Army too.

MCAS Yuma is the largest base in Marine Air. Formerly home to the Western Harrier squadrons it's now the test bed for all FA 35s for all services. And there is a major desert training area here. The Army has Yuma Proving Ground which actually has more people in Alaska than Arizona. It's a big deal for weapons testing.

That horse was a surprise. They had to move some stuff around to get it in! It's a cool couple in a cool place.

I actually did not mean to infer only Marines retire there. I just know the Army and Marines have a presence there and it is almost the #1 place retirees talk about going to.

The weather in the winter has its perks! Lucky you! ;)

I love a truly patriotic place. As an aside, my neighborhood, which numbers about 300 has their share of flags. I know this because I walk the entire thing every day. Of course, it helps that everyone that I know of is either military, Secret Service, State Department, FBI, or Civil Service...and on and on... not that this makes them patriotic, but I will tell you something. It feels good to be surrounded by people who chose to be a part of making this country safe or working towards the goal.

I love your neighborhood and hope we get to go on more walks!
