Wednesday Walk Yard Sculpture Edition

in #wednesdaywalk5 years ago

This is in response to a Challenge by @tattoodjay to take photographs of things on a walk. Things you don’t normally see. I really like the challenge and the challenger so here I am again. This is also my another post done 100% at #Palnet. Normally I use HackMD to compose and edit in, but this was done right in the box on the site. It really does work just fine!

Sometimes, I have no idea what I'm thinking when I start a series. Once in a while I get 'triggered' and go on a rant. In this particular case I saw a thing that was just too cool and started taking photos to back it up. Which got a little out of hand and makes this the 4th Wednesday Walk dedicated to yard stuff in my neighborhood.

So. Sam and I were way out of our normal range and walking through 'Pit Bull Alley' with at least 10 PitBulls barking from their yards when we saw the sculpture scene above. We were sort of on a schedule so I didn't stop and take any pictures. The truth is it then took us several weeks to see exactly where this piece lived.

MariachiPerspective.JPG

The scene in the back yard is at least 3/4 full size, a 5 piece Mariachi Band and a reluctant Burro. This piece is in the front yard and much smaller, as if to add some perspective. A pretty darn impressive bit of yard sculpture which started us searching our normal routes for more.

There is this yard that we walk by every day. Burros, horses, miners and a stagecoach make a really attractive display. It is one of many neighbors who know Sam's name but not mine...

HouseNumber.JPG

As you might imagine, there is lots of southwest influence in the yard sculpture division. This includes kokopeli and a travel circle petroglyph on a fairly unique address display.

FenceLights.JPG

Not surprisingly there is a lot of use of casual solar power (we are after all the sunniest city in the US). These fence lights that include Mexican Pottery and solar lights are typical.

Solar Toys.JPG

This solar display would have to be a typical. There is a whole row of solar powered toys on this fence, and everything there is wiggling or waving or bowing or something. It's a pleasure Sam and I get to experience every day. Three apricot poodles live there-two of them like Sam and one not so much :)

There is of course, some religious statuary. I assure you the lighting on this one is entirely accidental. I think!

Gargoyle.JPG

I do believe this is the only gargoyle in the neighborhood, but I could be mistaken!

This wraps up a pretty fun #WednesdayWalk. It's just yards, and just in my really little neighborhood. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I have!

All Words and Photographs in this post are mine, for better or worse.

Very awesome pictures. The sculptures are very interesting. Is that indicative of Yuma as a whole or just your specific area? I always enjoy coming along on your walks!

It's probably way more concentrated in this neighborhood. Generally this place is just flat and it's hard to distinguish one place from another. I think that's part of it. I also think part of it is people that always wanted to do 'something' with their house or yard and felt that the neighbors would disapprove. It's pretty obvious here that the neighbors do not disapprove...

That is still pretty cool! I like the anti-conformity of it all...

What an interesting walk there is so much of interesting in your neighborhood from cool sculptures to so many of those solar powered toys which I found both amusing and fascinating

Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :)

It is an eclectic place. It's a pretty darn good place to live, actually.

It sure comes across as eclectic from these posts I think I would love exploring there
