To say that Edward Snowden's disclosures shook up the working environment in the defense/intelligence community would be an understatement. Back when I still worked in that sector, I was often amused seeing how people reacted whenever the topic of Snowden came up. Most would adhere to the typical government line and call him a traitor in no uncertain terms. A sizeable minority were a little less hostile, saying that maybe some of the activities he disclosed were a little questionable but that Snowden should have gone through proper channels. It was only a relative few that were willing to entertain the thought that his actions, while still considered criminal, might have had a positive effect or were done out of good intentions.
But one thing that seemed universal was that the topic made almost everyone a little uncomfortable. You could almost hear everyone's sphincters tightening up when his name was uttered. Which was probably the reason why I would bring it up... 😈
Hey, sometimes you gotta make your own fun, am I right?
