Did America lose it’s way?

I have a confession to make: I was one of this right wings who despite whistleblowers and believed Snowden should be persecuted by treason. Stupid, I know. In another time, I’d agree with Rubio about the dangers of the kinds of leaks we are seeing. Actually, I still agree with him that the next one could be a Republican — after all, what we see is just politics, nothing less, nothing more — , I just don’t think it’s a bad thing anymore.

What really concerns me, though, is not the realization that politics is a dirty business, which came to me a long time ago, but the fact that so many people seems to think it’s ok that Assange has been in a kind of prison for the last four years, without due process or any kind of legal circus to justify his prosecution and nobody seems to care about him. He shouldn’t be stuck there and he sure as hell shouldn’t be on mercy of any state leader.

Just last week, WeakLeaks published a picture of some guys heavily armed in front of the embassy that became Assange’s prison for the last years. How doesn’t it shock people? How does anyone can think it’s ok for the government to just bully some innocent guy that said something that bothered them? And how come, in 2016, politicians are still using the Russians as a excuse to violate people’s rights?

I’m not an American, but I’m a big fan of it’s history, it’s values and it’s way of life. Oh well, I was. I can’t endorse any country which besides being on the edge of being governed by a socialist or by a crazy fascist, lost all it’s appreciation for human life and human rights. I guess all these years of endless wars really did a number in this country and Americans lost their way. Lost the sight of what really matters.

Since the rest of the world just follows your example, we’re all doomed. Unless you find your way back to your origins, to the path the Founding Fathers started building for you a long time ago. And that inevitably passes by supporting guys like Assange and Snowden, who went out of their ways to make sure people would know the truth about what’s really going on. And, as the say goes, the truth should set you free.
