Septic system teaches you very quickly how to keep certain items well away from flushing water.

Sadly storm water drains take the brunt of humans throwing everything down them, when it rains if they are clogged you end up with flooding in areas, we have this happen regularly!

Tip for water leaving a kitchen where fatty deposits sometimes end up, place a pair of environmentally friendly ladies pantyhose (only half leg and foot) on the pipe outside it collects any excess fats. Remove once a month throw into a paper bag and dispose of it with garbage, save our water, save our planet.

Excellent reminder to all @abitcoinskeptic

I'm noticing a pattern that people who have to deal with the consequences are much better. Most of us don't realize the mess we would be in if it was simple shut down for a day or two.

Living for oneself only, never a second thought on how much mess is left behind is very worrying. War is imminent over clean water shortages.

Good advice about what to put down the toilet or drains. Since I live in the countryside we have our own septic system. I am always carefully what goes down the sink or toilet.

On the septic you need to be extra careful, especially if it has a drainage bed. But definitely you would be more aware.

What an interesting, yet disturbing and icky post!

Never have I given a second thought to the rain and water systems around the cities. that is... until now!

I guess it really depends on the city. Calgary's system looks very advanced and is probably never an issue to think about.

That was very educational. Too many think out of sight out of mind.

That's why I recommend a visit to your local sewers!

I was talking with a plumber and he said rice and starchy water clogs pipes. Don't flush rice, or kitty litter!

People will always mess it up because there are not enough people caring. Shame we have those people like that...
