Another Fantastic Mural in Playa del Carmen, Mexico

in #walkwithme6 years ago (edited)

It's been a few rough days for @briancourteau and some of you have noticed my absence here because of it, so I'm showing you this spectacular house with murals that we stumbled upon several weeks ago; I just never got around to writing about until now :)

We had been out for a walk and Brian suddenly was very tired, so as serendipitous as it was, this was the spot he chose to rest, and I had no choice but to snap some photos of it and him. This is the front and the rest of the photos I took through that little white gate to the left.

Nothing like a gheko to welcome you home :) Yes, that's a beer in Brian's hand; it's called a Coronita, a small bottle of Corona about 200 ml tops. It's a perfect size because it doesn't get too warm before you finish it :)

This is to the left inside the courtyard. I had to snap the photos quick because even though I wasn't inside, I was still sticking my phone through the gate to snap the photos, and there was a "no trespassing" sign on it :)

A close up of the lovely flowers and hummingbirds.

Here's the building in the center with jellyfish, sting ray, fish and sea turtles,

but the really cool thing is that the jellyfish bodies are actually lights! I've seen it lit up at night and it's simply beautiful. Sorry though, because I don't have a photo of that ;)

To the right of that building seems to be two others; one in the center where the stairs are and one to the right with another awesome lizard painted on it.

Even in behind the stairs was painted, although the shade makes it difficult to see. Notice the roof is also painted! Someone sure took a lot of time doing this one!

I love how whimsical this wall is; a lizard, toucan and frog just hanging out, enjoying the sunshine :)

And finally, my most favorite person in the world, a little tired and forcing a smile for me and the camera :) xo

Would you ever paint a house like this? I love it and think it is so alive, but I also know it wouldn't suit the streets back home in Canada :) Its' beauty sure brought a lot of joy and an opportunity for rest for the two of us that day! After being here a year, I love that I'm still finding new murals to share with all of you :)

IF I could paint a house like that, I would paint my house and my neighbors too :) Unfortunately I have no artist abilities. I love it but I agree it only works in certain neighborhoods. Cute that Brian is holding a "toy" beer lol

hahaha baby beer :) That's funny, and Brian laughed when I read that to him too! I have no artistic abilities either, that's why I love all these murals so much :)

There are some very talented artists there. I love the painting. I wouldn't mind having my garage door painted with artwork. It would be a better welcoming than the color red. The artist should come showcase his artwork at the aquariums and zoos; bright and cheerful. Sending you both internet hugs.

Thanks @beeyou! And if you're place is like most at home, the garage door is the main visual space from the street. That would be a cool idea :)

Thanks for the hugs too :)

WOW your really making me want to visit there the murals are amazing

You should @tattoodjay! They really are amazing :)

Wow that mural looks a lot like @briancourteau! It's amazing how realistic it is!

Okay, but in a more serious style, it is really strange to have the juxtaposition of the lovely murals and the barbed wire! Hope that the coming days turn upwards for the two of you.

hahaha @bengy, I never even knew that Brian posed for it? :)

I know, the barbed wire is everywhere. I think the murals are meant to simply detract from that :)

I don't think it would work everywhere. It's one of those things it's the community. There are some amazing artists there. A few of them look like they may have hired someone to do their painting, like the one with the jellyfish, since it has lights. At least there, it seems that many are respectful of the murals. It also nice to see the smiling man in the picture. Looks like we had a good day all the way around !!

Thanks @tryskele, it was a great day all around, even though Brian's energy doesn't last so long!

These are all so beautiful, @lynncoyle1 :) Am I starting to recognize individual artists? Hmmmm

Thanks @youhavewings! I've wondered the same. Perhaps some artists here actually make a living with it? :)

How wonderful that they are able to have a whole city as a canvas! haha That would never go over here. Well, I shouldn't say never (lets leave room for hope). I would gladly offer my house up for creative inspiration ;)

Thanks always for sharing, I do enjoy your commentary and the art.

Thanks @youhavewings! I'm with you...I'd love to see this everywhere 😅

I guess you must have been feeling like you needed to take the shots without getting caught, but worth the effort for sure :) Is it possible to find out the story behind the artist?

Good to see that smile Brian! I'm looking out for the next trip (with a mini beer and another smile)

Thank you @faustofraser, I kept one eye out for a charging guard dog actually :) There are so many murals around here that I'm beginning to think maybe there are several working artists as well. But other than knocking on their door, I don't know how I could find out.

It is good to see Brian smile, isn't it :) His "mini beer" lol I'm so glad to have captured that smile on this day!

Certainly are a lot of really nice muralist where you are living, the top one with Brian, that one is fantastic, so three dimensional looking like it really is a giant gecko crawling around the building. Also loved the flowers and humming birds, such vibrancy to the flowers and the bird, they were all great but those are the two that really caught my eye. Sorry to hear that Brian has been having a few bad days,

Thank you @bashadow, I love the giant gecko one too the best! Thanks about Brian too; I wish he was feeling better too :)

is amazing!!!
I greet you, from cancun!!

You're in Cancun? That's awesome :)

Yes, i do! And you?

In Playa del Carmen :)

do you speak spanish? really i don't speak english very well, but i try to speak hehe..
It's a pleasure to meet you and hope to see you soon

No I don't speak Spanish @areare! We are from Canada, but have been trying to learn while we're here 😅 Nice to meet you too!

Awesome to see Brian !!! The murals were great too, Yes I could definitely see it in Canada, though I 've never been there so I am probably imagining Canada as a land of snow, where people travel by ski or ice skate, and have no idea how is the architecture like. Quebec looks great !

Thanks @edprivat; Brian was lookin' pretty good that day :)

Haha Canada isn't quite like that, it's actually like any other city :) Quebec is beautiful though!

"Thanks @edprivat; Brian was lookin' pretty good that day :)" Days like these are so damn important! It doesn't seem like much but it helps a lot (any form of recovery)
Keeping him active, and his mind busy too ! I don't like being bored , today I said it too "I am booooored" to my wife, and I realized it's because I don't have work to do . or a cool video game to play.

I really would love to visit Canada in the near future, even do gigs there.
My dad went 6 years ago, and I was so jealous :)

You're right @edprivat! Being able to hang onto the good days when the bad ones hit is so important!!

Canada would be lucky to have you 😅❤️
