Walk with Me Colorado Springs - Part Four

in #walkwithme6 years ago

It's been way too long since I've gotten out on a walk/mini-hike. Today, despite the wind, I took advantage of the nice weather to do just that. I decided to go explore some trails in Garden of the Gods, some new ones that I haven't been on yet.

I stayed on the southeast side of the park, mostly following the Ute Trail.

I did venture over into the Center Gardens for a short while.

I took a slightly different path back to my car, and ended up in a fantastic little crop of trees. I don't know if it was purely my emotions, which have been volatile as of late, or if it actually permeated the air, but the place held an edge of sorrow.

I felt pulled to this spot to do a small mediation session.

In my kung fu training, we've been learning how to focus on different aspects of breathing, and having different focus points for the meditation, depending on what you want out of it. I went with the yin yang breathing pattern (in, hold, out, hold, repeat. I typically go for counts of four for each, especially after a cold). And I decided to use the wind as a focus. It was an interesting experience, and I think the wind made it particularly interesting. I ended the session when the wind died down and the sun came out simultaneously.

And then I paused for a moment by this marker, to remember and honor the past, and offer some small hope for the future.

Beautiful photos, thank you for taking us along! GotG is so pretty, but I haven't been on any of the hiking trails, just driving through with friends in their cars (as I have no car). It was nice to see more of it!

All the hiking trails are great. I tend to stick to the ones that are more forest-y, but figured those would still have a decent amount of snow and ice. Since I was by myself, I decided to not risk it. I tend to be a hazard to myself.

Well I'm glad you were safe!

What a great place to go for a walk. I love those rocks. We don't have it like that where I'm from.
Those trees would definitely be my hang out spot. A place with feeling. I agree with you it looks full of sorrow. I would definitely want to sit there and feel with them. A story to be told there. Thank you for sharing. Maybe share some of that warm weather this way ^_^ We have a few feet of snow that I can't wait to get rid of lol.

If I knew how to share weather I would! It was super gusty, I think the radio weather people listed wind gusts somewhere around 30 mph. My new hiking jacket worked great, I didn't realize til I got back to my car, but I wasn't even chilly, even in the shade.

Wind can be powerful. I love the part where you meditated with the wind and when you were done the wind settled and the sun came out. That's powerful!

It was definitely interesting. I had never tried wind meditation before, I don't think it's really commonly done. Which I totally understand, I think it worked well for me this time cause of how my emotions and mental state were already in a turmoil. Something I intend to do again, should the right time arise.

I think it's also important to note, I sat with my back facing the wind, so that way I could actually breathe. It would slightly curl around me, but not enough to hinder my breathing or set off an asthma attack. It's something I would recommend, as I was meditating, it felt like i could let go of things better that way.

Im glad you spoke about it. It is something that I want to try now that you talk about it. It may be quite helpful to me. Wind is a strong element, working with it will have it's benefits for sure. I hope you get to do it again. I am happy you got a lot of good out of it ^_^

Thanks for taking us on this incredibly unique #walkwithme. I loved this scenery, this photo blew my mind:

The rock on the right is Kissing Camels. You can't tell from this angle, but it has two "heads" that touch over a small hole (hence the name). It was really fun and interesting approaching them from a different angle.
