in #wafrica6 years ago (edited)

Hello members of the @wafrica community,

It is truly a pleasure to have this platform to share with our estemed community members. The past three weeks have truly been memorable for us.

From attending a @wafrica.curators meetup to attending the Steemit In Nigeria event organized by @ehiboss, it became necessary to have a one on one interaction with the director of @wafrica, @lordjames, and hear his thoughts on the way forward as regards blockchain technology in Africa.

Chiama

Hello James, how are you doing today?

Lord James,

Good, as always

Chiama

That’s great to hear 😁
The past two weeks have been a busy one for members of the Steemit Community in Nigeria.

Can you enlighten our readers on what went down?

Lord James,

Yea, there's been so much that we try to squeezed into a 14 day calendar

Chiama

Please tell us more.

Lord James

Before the open house sin2 which happened just about a week ago, the WAfrica team had their own special event which was the WAfrica curators meetup right here in Abuja

The WAfrica curator's meetup was exclusive to the WAfrica's team but also a special guest from our sister community, Artzone.

Chiama

It was truly a memorable experience.
I would like us to focus on SIN2
What was your impression of the just concluded Steemit in Nigeria 2 Conference?

Lord James,

Awesome, especially when you take into consideration the present economic situation surrounding the crypto ecosystem. It would be quite difficult to put together a five day event at the present bearish market but the team pulled through and for that, they earn my admiration

Chiama

Definitely, Nigerians are keen to learn about BLOCKCHAIN Technology and it was refreshing see young people eager to know more.
Chris Ani, one of the speakers in the conference made this comment ‘Blockchain was built to put power in the hands of people.’
Can you please give us your thoughts on this quote?

Lord James,

The whole purpose of blockchain is decentralization which the ability to remove key decision process from the hands of a few centralized authority. So he's right to say that blockchain was built to put power in the hands of the people.

Blockchain is the true democracy which we were taught to be the government of the people, for the people and by the people.

Chiama

Wow
I was intrigued when Mr Chris spoke on the topic ‘The blockchain industry and its value chain’. He highlighted all the spheres where blockchain tech can create an impact asides crypto currency. How do you think we can spread the news of this phenomenon to the young people of Nigeria?

Lord James

I used to tell people that the best way to evangelize your religion is to do well in your chosen religion to a point that people will ask you, what are you into. Blockchain is a fundamental technology and I'll say we'll truly understand what to do with it in a few years to come.

Now if you desire to spread the tech, then take time to understand what you are talking about and also create value for both the industry and yourself. When you do this, it will be automatic to spread the message about.

Mark didn't have to go bout shouting Facebook, he simply created value with Facebook both for himself and the internet industry, the rest will work on its own

Chiama

I am super excited about that. Can you enlightened us on what P2P means?

Lord James

P2P? That's an interesting topic to discuss.

Presently, we live in a centralized world. If I'm sending money to you, I'll have to transfer from my own bank to your bank. Let's say I'm using access bank and you are using diamond.

First the money leaves my account. Access will have to decide if I can send money or not. Then the money will get to your bank which is diamond and they too will have to decide if you can receive money or not. Before you finally receive the money in your account

These process are automated so it takes quite a few seconds and you might never noticed but if the bank for any reason believes I can't send money or you can receive (terrorism charges, money laundering, etc)

The bank can stop the transaction and freeze either of our account. But with p2p which meant peer to peer, there's no central authority to do that

Chiama

Interesting!!!!
You are the Director of @wafrica. How has the journey been so far?

Lord James

Interesting. I think I got myself a family here at WAfrica

The last meetup proved that fact that we are more of a family here. I have very exciting and awesome people to work with. So it's not much of a hard job for me to direct affairs at WAfrica when everyone are on the same purpose

Chiama

What is the way forward for Nigeria as regards cryptocurrency and blockchain technology?

Lord James

This is our time, for those who has found this technology early enough, we are the first follower and our success or failure will determine what the rest of the country will do as regards crypto/blockchain

Lord James

So I'll say it's in our hands - we the early adopters. Let's do our best to create value out of this new technology

Chiama

I hope we all can tap into this virgin land so we can become a leading name in the industry. Thank you so much for your time

Lord James

It was a pleasure. I hope we do this some other time and for everyone out there reading this I'll say ' find your niche while the industry is still young.

I hope you enjoyed the interview. Till I come your way next time, I remain your ever positive sister @chiama.

early adopters are the fortunate ones always. We only have to open our eyes to see the light this shines. Thanks for such a beautiful convo guys

It was a pleasure speaking with WAFRO media on this interview. I hope we do this soon again. Thanks @chiama.

Lovely interview and I agree 100% with James outlook. Sometimes it's easy to forget the markets are influenced, and Bitcoin holds much power over other blockchain prices. But over time, these issues will be addressed, or level out, and what we have here will become the basis for a great deal of prosperity we can all use to store and trade value in our lives, directly with each other.

P2P has always been very powerful technology. So powerful, it can redefine entire industries, and can't be controlled by governments. Now we rebuild an even stronger eco-system from these early beginnings, to redefine the power of the internet for people.

so thoughtful of you @chiama
thanks for your awesome response @lordjames

We are really fortunate to be early in this Space.. Let"s make the best of it..

All crypto is crashing today; it's a good idea to have a Plan B that will get thru much of next year I assume..

The ideas behind this computer science are sound, and they touch much of society, so I won't give up on my support for social media on the blockchain!
