1. Avoid mobile devices while in kitchen.
The reason why the use of mobile in the kitchen is dangerous is actually very simple and not as complicated as you may think. Mobile devices such as mobile phones causes a lot of distraction and when dealing with fire especially in an enclosed area like your house, you should be very careful and watchful.
2. Avoid use of naked flames in door
Another common cause of fire accidents and outbreak in houses is the use of naked flames such as candles and wicklamps in door. Even if you must use candles, make sure you use a candle stand and always keep the candles away from the window curtains. Again, do not smoke in bed as you're about sleeping.
3. Turn off appliances when not in use.
Another safety habit to pick up is shutting down and unpluging all electric appliances such as the electric stove, electric iron, television and so on from the wall sockets when they are not in use anymore. This is to avoid voltage surge that always follow when power is restored. I'm sure Nigerians will understand.
4. Shut off the generator before you fill the gas tank.
This is something i see a lot people do, that is refilling a generator gas tank while it's still on. You may have been getting away with this but remember that an accident happens in just a second. Spilling fuel on a hot generator engine or spilling fuel on the plug could cause a fire outbreak. How careful can you be?
5. Don't be an emergency engineer or electrician.
Don't try to fix electrical faults yourself when you know you are not an engineer or electrician and don't have such skill. Just a simple mistake of fusing together negative with the positive could set off a spart resulting to fire outbreak. Apart from that, you alsi stand a risk of being electrocuted since you may not have saftely kits like gloves.
