Peace like a River

What is peace?

Firstly I believe our understanding of the word Peace might defer from each other. Some might say “It’s having no worries about anything” or “Being able to live a carefree life and not get caught up with any issues or troubles”.

The Merriam-Webster dictionary defined peace as “freedom from disquieting or oppressive thoughts or emotions”

No matter what your definition of peace is; peace is something we all want in our lives, it eludes most us. When you ask people around what they want in life, even if they should talk about material wealth or any other things they might desire, they would always include peace which sometimes can be said to be “Peace of Mind”.

Yes, there might be peace in our community, peace in our state or country but there’s this thing which tugs at our heart, it causes our heartbeat to increase, we get so worried, sometimes leading to depression.

We ask ourselves what time would we ever be free from the troubles and cares that surrounds us daily, when would we be able to seat down and heave a sign of relief and finally say that we are free?. Would that day ever come?

But then, is a river ever peaceful? Yes, I know we might argue that it looks smooth and spreads around without any sign of movement. Some would say yes that’s a peaceful attitude

But when you step inside a river, does it feel peaceful again? With the currents assailing you, trying to shift you off your feet and sweep you away. Believe me, there’s nothing peaceful about a river.

When we apply same principle to our lives, we realize all that seems to look like troubles and worries are just the currents trying to push us off our feet. And what do you when you stand in a river? You either stand your ground or move to the other side or you look for a support to hold on to if you’re weak.
