An Uneven Tale of Steemit Voting Pattern – Bulk to Rare!! A question of survival.

in #voting7 years ago (edited)

Steemit Whales are for Whales only or Whales are for Minnows too??

A typical question still unanswered.

“A minnows is stranded in an island surrounded by Whales, asking for help, however no one listening his voice”

This is the shocking statement I came across while conversing with a fellow minnow Steemian. Put me into dilemma, the trending voting patterns going around on Steemit., and how much it has changed over months.

Later, I came across a similar concerned post Time To Wake Up and Fix Steem's Voting Problem by @kevinwong about the inadequate voting done on Steemit with adverse effect of steemit economy .This inadequate voting is hampering the Steemit equilibrium.

What is Happening :

The beautiful platform of community developer are now limited to few groups. Who only votes on each other posts to keep and distribute the rewards among themselves. The voting pattern is trending in way, that there is no room for Minnows to sustain on Steemit.

  • Whales do not votes on minnows o new user
  • Group voting by set of users among themselves.
  • Self voting on comments and shit posts.
  • Steemit transforming into a money making module.

Are these not count under "REWARD POOL RAPE" ???

Surprises are always welcomes with open heart whether it be cash or in kind. And Steemit is one of such social platform, which surprises many user, with unconditional voting rewards on their content. I used to hear a lot of tale of such surprises on Steemit by different users.

The surprise voting done by the big users called “Whales & Orca”, having enough SP which make higher voting on minnow’s post. These surprises keep the minnows pumped and motivate them to keep doing the good work and bring up additional new users, which helps in growth of the Steem Blockchain powered Steemit social platform.

Looking at the amount of surprises rewards that few of my known one was getting, induced and attracted me to join Steemit. With a hope to get few of the surprises from “whales and orca” of steemit pond someday/one day. I keep posting and sharing many content over the time and become active member on many discord servers.

Discord server are the building blocks of community development, as Steemit always emphasises on building social community.

These server helps you to interact with many around platform. With the passage of time, since I joined in Oct-2017, I have noticed many changes on Steemit , especially in the Voting Trends and patterns by the big players apart from other developmental activities undertaken by @steemdevs and @buildteam to improve and input additional features to make Steemit a wonderful place.

The Voting Trends:

The Stemit voting trends, which happen to be regular on many minnow’s few month back are now limited to very few and that too with a low voting percentage. Earlier, the big players do curate many posts through manual or bots, and rewards them. However, the trend is nowhere to be seen.

Seems as the big players have decided to vote only on certain group of people, who, are close to them since the steemit early days. They have limited their voting to a limited set of people. The community development, has now squeezed into groups, and breaching such group walls to get into limelight is the hardest thing some minnows are facing.

Lately, I came across many post of #steemit, #steepshot & #busy… irrespective of any content, the big players are voting only among themselves, and hardly putting any votes and efforts on new user’s content. *Even if they come across any posts of minnows, very generously they are voting at a very minimal percentage from 0.5% to 1% as compared to what they were voting among themselves.

Minnow never beg for their votes!! The platform is developed and build in such a way , that it makes minnows looking for growth thorough voting rewards, by big players.

If the Big Whales & Orca doesn't bother about community development by assisting the minnows, for sure the end of #Steemit is near.

These big players hardly entertain any new set of people around them, I personally tried to make contacts with some and hardly get any reply on any discord or steemit chat. Make me feel isolated in big pond

The minnows are completely feeling neglected and stranded. The basic theory of community development is not more required on Steemit. If you lucky enough to have closeness with any big Whales or Orca, you get sufficient rewards, even on your shit posts. If you not close to anywhere, you are nothing on Steemit even if you keep posting your heart out.

I have seen many Steemit ups and downs in my short stays, from downfall of likes of @randowhale to the reward pool rape fights between @berniesanders and @haejin the enormous phissing activities every month, and now the trend of group voting among set of users.

After spending 7 months, i can say that the focus and objective of Steemit have taken a back and changed over the time. Still it is early time, and better if the big whales start taking care for all round community deveopment, rather than personal and group development.

PS: All these are my personal viewpoint, after coming across, and noticing many irregular activities, and whales votes on whales posts.

I believe many dont go by my words , especially many big whales, but this is the hard and bitter truth that eceryone facing.

Keep Steeming...Steem On !!!

I am new to Steemit. I opened my account in August 2017, but I started posting some things in March 2018. I have observed the same as you. It is very hard to get the attention of a whale. When you see why they get so much money, you notice that they vote for each other, leaving minnows unattended. I have seem many quality posts by minnows have $0.00 or 0.01 rewards. I hope someone pays attention to this issue, otherwise this will become like a kingdom with the nobility and the peasants..

true story bhai :(

The only thing that you can do about this is try to grow yourself. Maybe the minnow friends that you make today, will become the Steemit whales of the future.

I've gotten a few whale upvotes, but only when I write exceptional content. I've indeed also seen that whales give a lot of votes to their friends, even for content that's not necessarily perfect.

i am following you

It's always interesting to look at the distribution of stake and what people are doing with it. I think there are a good deal of people working with different intentions, but there's a lot of generosity flying around as well. We all grow together, and remember, minnows today will be dolphins and orcas in a year or two, if we persist and invest in the blockchain with thoughtful content, conversation, and international community.

Agree ....but why the trend is to voting among the whales only...not one if you do notice few of the whales post they only votes on other whales post...so that left with only option of investing into steem rather than developing and assisting communities

I have an amazing idea to split the rewards that I will get from dtube, and I am finding more people who are participating in this, I think the only solution to get the same rewards is to split them, check the first @dcooperation post and you will understand. If you want to participate, I can interview you as well, I hope you will accept my invitation. ☺
