Should I use my VOTE as PAYMENT for GAMBLING - or MY OWN Money?
Since nobody ever is going to read this article, I will just write whatever is on my mind and laugh at it later :)
No Risk - Only Reward - and a 50 % RAKE to the Bookie!
You know, there is someone who actually pays the bills for these games in the end - and the way it is structured, it does not take a genius to recognize that. With multiple games being played every day, and a bunch of new competitors being created to do the exact same thing.
Eventually these rewards dump on @bittrex & @poloniex, a larger and larger % of the daily reward-pool and because of the snowball-effect, there will be hardly anything left for normal users who write articles that nobody reads, like this one.
The way to win any steem-game is to set up two accounts and bet for both outcomes and I get free money on behalf of the daily Steemit Reward-pool. No Risk - Just Reward - and while doing so - we are collectively building these steem-game accounts to become the largest whales on steemit over time, since they keep half to themselves.
But, but, but... I like the free money
Yes, we all love free money - but do we love free money so much that we are willing to sacrifice the Steemit-Platform and the creative user-base to allow a few account-owners to rake in the largest % in bookie-history?
I am not much of a gambling-man, but every once in a while I do place my money on a bet that I can win or lose and normally the rake is 10% or less to the "house" who facilitate the games, which is fair.
At some point enough is enough - and the real stake-holders in Steemit will come out and flag them hard
At some point the top 100 accounts on Steemit will reach a cultural agreement that makes it less attractive to facilitate pay-with-vote-games and people who want to facilitate gambling, will have to change their rules so that it becomes real gambling with real risk/reward/loss for everyone who participate.

This is nice, but there is a flaw in your assumption.
All rewards end up on the market eventually. It doesn't really matter if this is from gambling or not. The amount given out each day is fixed and all voting does is determine who gets what amount each day. If you benefit directly by your own vote there is nothing ethically wrong with this in my book.
As for whale making. @wang became a huge whale by providing a bot that welcomed new users. He got tons of upvotes from the noobs and the regular users alike. There is nothing wrong with whale making by upvotes.
What needs to happen is the voting thing needs to be formalized for gambling so it's more accessible. They could do this by simply launching an app and asking for the user's voting key.
Agree with your sentiment about the distribution of rewards, especially in this case where it isn't just a matter of 'bets' but a novel structure along with sports content and significant effort being put into building a business in the ecosystem. As a small correction, wang became a moderate whale from early mining and then a larger whale mostly from curation rewards and I believe relatively little from the welcome comment posts.
Thanks for the clarification. i just remember people flipping out because he was the first bot made whale. The bot was upvoting a handful of people repeatedly and at the time his vote was worth something like $500 USD each.
We are doing exactly that: see the preview at https://bitsports.io
Correction: We have rebranded into https://steemsports.com
It is a very interesting way to look at it. @steemsports is one of the only reason a lot of people are coming back regularly to Steemit.com. So it is generating more traffic for the site and keeping people engaged. I'm not opposed to these games at all. Spending 5 hours on a post and making $0.17 isn't enticing. Voting on a winner is easier and a lot more fun.
looks like an opportunity for some competition to me.
Like monopoly :)
A lot of people struggled with the buy in, so I'm contemplating trying to get a game together at $10: 1 steem.
What is very obvious, is the community is interested in this topic. @beanz posted about this topic, and her post has more comments than any trending article on the site. (Plus it was flagged early and often.)
Nobody on this post is encouraging anyone to start a war.. thats why her post was flagged (as far as I can tell). We all have different opinions on everything Steem related - but at the end of the day - its Steem Inc who makes the meaningful decisions - we are merely users. If users start acting like vigilantes it could get very ugly in here. I like that people are discussing theses issues - if everyone thought like everyone else - life would be boring!
I agree that it is good that we all think differently, and yet, the vast majority of the community was able to continue to discuss the issue, a flag war never happened, and many saw the post, and discussed the topic anyway.
The flagging was unnecessary and actually brought more attention to the issue. It is typical behavior of these flaggers, when they could just type their thoughts on the topic like the rest of the community manages to do.
Adults manage to discuss issues, as has happened here and on beanz post, the community has shown we do not need to be flagged into good behavior.
I read the post I'm going to adjust my rules call for 10% rake and no need to upvote. Seems like no one wants to bet there money the old fashion way but I will just keep posting and hopefully people will grow some balls!!
Oh wow. That's one hell of a penny to drop. I'm not usually so dense, but wow, that makes total sense.
You make a stunningly obvious point. Why have not the economists here already done the same. And Happy Christmas.
Oh, and lovely photographs btw.
I agree that there should be a close-to-zero rake and a means of ensuring fair play by accounts.
