Hello Steemians!

In this series of posts I intend to share some resources I've found that can help us creative minds achieve our goals, be it creating a video, getting out of a rut, finding that elusive rhyme or simply finding a color you're looking for :)

I love sharing free downloads on the internet, be it free videogames, free audio plugins or any type of free software and on this post I wanted to share the app I use to edit video, which as you may have guessed is a free download :O

A video editing app is key for us musicians and creative people that want to go a little further when sharing our stuff in video form. There are many ones online, but few are free and also good. This one is incredible!!! Here's the link:

HITFILM EXPRESS - FREE VIDEO EDITOR DOWNLOAD

A little story

I first started editing with the idea of making a cover of Porcupine tree's Sentimental in videosong form, this means that everything that you can hear is played in front of the camera.

I didn't know anything about actually editing video, but I did know how to edit audio, so I decided to give it a go.

I researched what the best video editing app was at the time and found that Adobe premiere was the best for PC, I watched a lot of tutorials and downloaded the 30 day free trial Adobe offers and learnerd a lot very fast.

All taken into account, it took me 5 days to make the whole thing, making the arrangement for the music, record the audio and video takes, editing and mixing the song and then editing and getting the video in sync with the music. I ended up with two videos from that learning experience:

After 30 days you can't use the app unless you pay for it, and I had no way to pay, so I couldn't make any more videos for a while.

Then through out the years I tried many other editing apps, and learned a lot more about it.

Last year I needed to edit some video in a hurry for my band @olvidesantelmo and my Premiere trial had expired again, so I searched and found Wondershare's Filmora and bought it. This is the video I made with @vera.carla's help:

Then I had to edit some more videos for my other band @koba but wondershare didn't have all the tools I needed so I kept looking. I found davinci resolve, this is an incredible editing software, however my PC wasn't powerful enough to use it so I went looking again. One day I stumbled upon a site called Hitfilm, they offer a free and a paid version of their software, so I triend the free version.

After I downloaded it I found that I had no idea where everything was, so I went back to their site and found they have some really extensive free tutorials, from simple and easy editing to how to create portals and lightsaber battles hehe.

I've had the idea for this series in the back burner for a while now, some time ago I was reading one of the great @basilmarples's posts and found out that he not only is a great musician, but is also an actor (which makes total and complete sense to me!). He was sharing his experiences on participating in a STAR WARS fan film called Rebellion. This is that post.

As soon as I saw the title and the picture I knew I had seen this film before and that I had seen his face many many months before I ever knew about steemit or entered the Open mic's songwriters challenge, that's how small the world is hehe, in spanish we would say "el mundo es un pañuelo" which translates to "the world is a handkerchief" :). That was the moment I had the idea to share this type of resources and information.

Whoa man I can't thank you enough for showing me this! I already pay for Adobe Premiere and After Effects, but if this is as good or close, I will totally drop paying those guys.

Awesome!, There is also a paid version that has some more stuff, some really cool stuff, but this free version has sooooooooooooo much stuff!!

Also the paid version of it is a pay once thing, no subscription stuff hehe

Awesome I'm going to check it out for sure. Again thanks for the info!

Thank you so much for sharing this! SO VALUABLE!

I'm happy you find it so valuable!!! I would love to see what you do with it! :)

Already downloaded it! I will start working with it when I get some time. I was really good on Pinnacle, but, switched to Mac. Pinnacle isn't on Mac, and I was forced to upgrade it every year. So, really excited about this one!
