Maze War is considered one of the most pioneering games in history.
The Maze War also known as Maze Wars or Maze, is a video game with a first-person 3D perspective of great historical relevance, for several reasons, in the year of 1974, when there were hardly any computers and the Pong was the revolutionary game, Steve Colley who later worked for NASA for a early versions of Mars rover technology, began to develop Maze Wars in the Imlac PDS-1 computer in 1973, the video game would not be finished until 1974.
The player control an avatar, in a 3D image of the maze and it's is also presented a map below, when moving through the labyrinth this is full of enemies that move back and forth, and that turn to the left and the right. Players are shaped like an eyeball and gain points as they hit other players with their shots and lose them when they are shot, this gave a lot of tactic by using corners to prepare ambushes. Occasionally, in some versions, a duck may also appear. The Imlac PDS-1 for being a central computer allowed up to 32 players to play simultaneously.
Why is it so relevant in the history of video games?, well it is because it is considered the first videogame of first-person perspective, besides not only that it offered the possibility of interacting with other players in other computers through the new ethernet network technology to create a multiplayer environment, what convert it in the first game to use these capabilities, and with graphics that gave a perspective in 3D is also a pioneer in this field, and to end also the first game open source since the code was available to each and every one modified it as they wanted.
So awesome, hard to believe that already in 1974, nothing less, some guys was played in a network and in 3D.
