The Divine Comedy is transforms into a hack and slash.
Source
The Divine Comedy, it is a poem written by Dante Alighieri the exact date it was written is unknown but it is assumed that it begun 1308 and completed in 1320, a year before his death in 1321. It is considered the masterpiece of Italian literature and one of the summits of universal literature. In a very poor way I can explain, with three main characters: Dante as himself, Beatriz idealized by Dante and poet Virgilio admired by dante, the poem narrates the journey of the author Dante Alighieri to hell, purgatory and paradise, to atone for his sins and find the meaning of his lives, hand in hand with divine intervention. The whole work is full of symbols that refer to medieval knowledge and thought; religion, astronomy, philosophy, mathematics, characters, places and actions.
Is for the facinaste of history that without a doubt the company Visceral Games in 2010 decided to launch a game based on the Italian poem, just like the written the game follow Dante in the different circles of hell, in search of his beloved Beatrice, mysteriously dead and taken to the underworld. Apparently, the first place will take place in the Limbo (the first circle of hell, for the non-baptized), and in it will face The Reaper, which we'll steal his magical scythe. Throughout the adventure, the hero will cross the nine circles of hell, described in the work of Dante, each of them reserved for a type of sinner. In the ninth and last circle, that of the traitors, Dante will face the devil himself.
The first thing that has surprised me has been the unexpected fidelity to the classic. I thought that the inspiration in The Divine Comedy was going to be rather subtle, but no, there are many references retouched with very correct changes to turn them into elements of an action adventure, the company bet for a combat system Hack and Slash, and some differences that I can tell you for example, in the poem dante is lost in a dark wood, but in the game the character returns from the christian crusades. The game is bloody, spectacular and dark, but it is also a modern reinterpretation of the classic could give much to talk about, it is possible that we continue to see this cases, where companies take the dust to epic books to seek inspiration
I personally read the poem some years ago I think it was about 2 years after I played the game but only the part of hell this is entertaining, agile and replete with universal references, later we had the purgatory drop became very dense so I could not finish it and I didn't even start the paradise, so I'm not surprised that the end of the game is to reach paradise.
