David Hay's SOS Venezuela Project!

Can cryptocurrency and blockchain change the world?

Myself and many others believe it can, the question is simply how and when? Youtube celebrity David Hay has proposed a project to introduce cryptocurrency as alternative currency in a crisis zone border town near Venezuela. This city would serve as a test case to see if it could be done, and could set a precedent for many other places in the world.

The rapid inflation in Venezuela has left the people robbed and with a fiat currency that is essentially meaningless to own. The conditions have never been better for crypto-adoption!

In the coming months David will travel with a team of volunteers and begin to educate the population about the use of cryptocurrency! They've set up a discord channel to arrange their trip, there's many different ideas on how to best approach this project. I think this is an amazing project to keep an eye on because it could be the first step in mass crypto-adoption!

I really recommend watching his video, it's a fascinating project!

Cryptocurrency and blockchain can, and will change the world. I don't believe it will be for better or worst though.

I read Venezuela rejected aid? Is that incorrect? I know their situation is horrifying (spoke to a writer who lives in Venezuela late last year). It's a very noble attempt and I wish you lots of luck as no one deserves such a life.

Despite my well-wishes, I don't see what blockchain or cryptocurrencies can do to circumvent corruption? Even if food, water, energy is all produced in a single region, and that single region can all use crypto to self-sustain (in-trading) a corrupt government or desperate citizens can still cause issues.

We all know that people working together for mutual benefit works. Even fiat and the technology from the 40's proved that (after WW2 people did this to rebuild). So blockchain and crypto aren't going to be the reason for success - it's the citizens who'll decide that.

My point here is that crypto (like fiat) = value = power = influence = corruption/greed.

Don't get me wrong, I love crypto and blockchain. Yet I'm not thinking it's going to solve problems that are inherently human issues.

For example, the monetary system we have isn't the problem, it's the people who have manipulated it. Blockchain or crypto isn't going to stop that. Just look at those hodling for maximum profits... They are the same as those who hodled fiat for maximum profits. It's human nature.

So my long-winded question is, how does crypto or blockchain solve the human problems your project will encounter? Like greed, jealousy, corruption, manipulation, and theft. I'm not doubting your project, I'm truly just curious. Sorry for the long post.

Very cool. fingers crossed for him!

David Hay is still blockchain agnostic and hasn't chose his coin yet. I met him he's full of energy and passion for what crypto can do for Latin Americans.

See for yourself...

How crypto is about to change Cucuta, Colombia. Recorded live @ NAC3 Los Angeles 3/24/18

I love following this project. I'm wondering if its good to present the Cucuta refugees with a few of the most appropriate options for currencies and let the market dictate which one is adopted. I can understand why a single one might be better.

where is this guy¿? He hasn´t broadcasted any youtube videos for 2 months...is he safe in that shit hole where he moved?I hope he is fine!
