The world's attention has been focused for weeks on the political and economic situation in Venezuela, with lies and propaganda on every side. Meanwhile, as we have for over six months, Mission: Agua-Possible is progressing toward our goal of 1300 USD (in STEEM), for a well pump to bring water up to the family farm of @edgargonzalez.

Background

Severe economic and political crisis over the past few years in the South American country of Venezuela intensified recently, as president Maduro doubled down on his currency manipulation, price-fixing, propagandizing citizens, and suppressing resistance. You've heard about the country's recent turmoil. But the world's media isn't showing us even half the reality!

I began to see more and more Steem users from Venezuela, and I started to hear their interesting stories - and ask questions. I discovered some dark truths about the economic and political situation there. Most shops are empty, the currency is worthless, people are hungry - the economy is at a standstill. Theft, corruption, and violence escalate as society breaks down. Millions are fleeing on foot - if they can. The harsh socialist government attempts to control/fix the economy, and blames problems on the people. Most government services (like running water) work only in certain areas - or not at all.

The people are desperate for any change and protests sometimes fill the streets for miles. Maduro announced that Venezuela will no longer accept US Dollars for oil exports, then tried to get his country's gold back from Bank of England, who refused. The Russian military has become involved, supporting Maduro. The Americans back a previously-unknown man called Guaidó. It seems that violence may be coming. Stability for the people seems out of reach.

Edgar

A few months ago, I found the blog of Edgar (@edgargonzalez), a Venezuelan man about my age. He's a father of young children, and a professional whose job disappeared because of the crisis. He feeds his family by fishing, foraging for fruits, and growing cassava on his late-father's plantation. He uses Steemit to share his stories and earn Steem to buy food. Shortly after I met Edgar, a power outage caused a failure of the pump used to bring water up to the farm. A repairman confirmed the pump is beyond fixing. Edgar had been using his well to water his crops, and to provide drinking water to his children and other families in the neighborhood. Without a pump to bring water up from the aquifer, his gardens have withered - and the neighborhood must forage for water elsewhere.

( Edgar earned a fish this week by helping some fisherman haul in their nets. He saved it for the following day to divide it between all his family members. )

Without government water services, and now without water from his well, Edgar and a few other families are in a tough situation. I wondered what a poor Canadian man could do to help. After using the Steem blockchain to learn about the problems, I realized that it could also be the SOLUTION!

That's when I first began Mission Agua-possible! Once we gather 1300 USD worth of Steem, I'll transfer it to Edgar, to be converted to cash to buy the pump.

Getting this pump for the farm as soon as possible is vital. Water is life!

Meager support and a Steem price drop

Despite a few resteems and other efforts, less than a dollar in upvotes was generated by the previous post, and only one small direct donation came in. Then, the price of Steem fell this week, resulting in (another) backslide in overall progress.

Resteems help get new eyes (and upvotes) into the project, so thank you if you're able to resteem occasionally.

Fondo

La grave crisis económica y política en los últimos años en el país sudamericano de Venezuela se intensificó recientemente, cuando el Presidente maduro se duplicó en su manipulación de divisas, fijación de precios, propaganda ciudadana y supresión de la resistencia. Has oído hablar de la agitación reciente del país. ¡ Pero los medios del mundo no nos muestran ni la mitad de la realidad!

Empecé a ver más y más usuarios de steem de Venezuela, y empecé a escuchar sus historias interesantes-y hacer preguntas. Descubrí algunas verdades oscuras sobre la situación económica y política allí. La mayoría de las tiendas están vacías, la moneda es inútil, la gente tiene hambre-la economía está en un punto muerto. El robo, la corrupción y la violencia se agravan a medida que la sociedad se rompe. Millones están huyendo a pie-si pueden. El duro gobierno socialista intenta controlar/arreglar la economía, y culpa a los problemas de la gente. La mayoría de los servicios del gobierno (como el agua corriente) solo funcionan en ciertas áreas, o no en absoluto.

La gente está desesperada por cualquier cambio y las protestas a veces llenan las calles por millas. Maduro anunció que Venezuela ya no aceptará dólares estadounidenses para las exportaciones de petróleo, luego intentó obtener el oro de su país de vuelta del Banco de Inglaterra, quien se negó. El ejército ruso se ha involucrado, apoyando a maduro. Los americanos de vuelta a un hombre previamente desconocido llamado Guaidó. Parece que la violencia puede estar llegando. La estabilidad de la gente parece fuera de su alcance.

Edgar

Hace unos meses, encontré el blog de Edgar (@edgargonzalez), un hombre venezolano de mi edad. Es un padre de niños pequeños, y un profesional cuyo trabajo desapareció debido a la crisis. Poco después de que conocí a Edgar, un apagón provocó un fallo de la bomba utilizada para llevar agua a la granja. Un reparador confirmó que la bomba está más allá de la fijación. Edgar había estado utilizando su pozo para regar sus cosechas, y para proporcionar agua potable a sus hijos y otras familias en el barrio. Sin una bomba para traer agua desde el acuífero, sus jardines han marchitados-y el vecindario debe alimentarse de agua en otro lugar.

Sin servicios de agua del gobierno, y ahora sin agua de su pozo, Edgar y algunas otras familias están en una situación difícil. Me preguntaba qué podría hacer un pobre hombre canadiense para ayudar. Después de usar la blockchain de Steem para aprender sobre los problemas, me di cuenta de que también podría ser la solución!

Apoyo magro y una caída de los precios Steem

A pesar de algunos resteems y otros esfuerzos, menos de un dólar en los votos superiores fue generado por el puesto anterior, y sólo una pequeña donación directa vino en. Entonces, el precio de Steem cayó esta semana, resultando en (otro) retroceso en el progreso general.
