ofo Bicycle sharing is now available in Vienna and there is also a small problem with it 😉
Das chinesische Radverleih-Startup ofo gibt es seit letzten Sommer in Wien und die markanten gelben Fahrräder kann man jetzt überall in Wien sehen. Aber es gibt auch ein kleines Problem damit: die gelben Bikes werden manchmal an den unmöglichsten Orten einfach stehen gelassen, da ofo keine Stationen unterhält und die Fahrräder einfach über eine App vor Ort geliehen werden können.
The Chinese bicycle rental start-up ofo started last year in Vienna and now you can see the yellow bikes all over Vienna. Small issue with ofo: The yellow bikes are sometimes left standing in the most unsuitable places, as ofo does not maintain stations and the bikes are simply borrowed via their mobile app from where they are.

Bike sharing is a great idea. Although if the stations are not maintained how do people find the bikes?
I think everything is controlled by the app, so the bikes have an internet connection and gps and you can find them on the map and rent them wherever they are. Similar to car sharing :)

Ich frage mich nur warum das keinem Österreicher eingefallen ist sondern einem Chinesen. Nichts desto trotz ein super Projekt das E-Mobilität weiter voranbringen wird.
Das frage ich mich auch, ich denke, dass die Bürokratie in Österreich viel zu groß ist und es nur ausländischen Firmen gelingt, etwas zu verändern. Auf lange Sicht wird sich Österreich mit den vielen Gesetzen, Auflagen und der hohen Steuerlast selbst ins Knie schießen, da es in so einem Umfeld keine IT-Startups und keine Innovation geben kann.
Du sprichst mir aus der Seele. Österreich bzw. europäisches Recht vereint mit österreichischem baut sich selbst die Barrikaden.
I think there is also one other brand bikes like this. Where you just can let your bike wherever you want. One time i saw even a bike on a tree... I like the idea that they have, but the people nowadays are just insane and its not for them. City bikes are the best and you cant go wrong with them in my opinion.
haha, a ofo bike on a tree is really weird, but I like the idea that you do not need the stations any more and everything is controlled by the app.
That's great. I hope they start stations soon as there will be no more bikes left at unsuitable places.
I prefer the concept without the stations actually, because it is similar to car sharing and more user friendly. But they have to educate the users to park the bikes only at suitable places ;)
So etwas gibt es bei uns nicht, ist aber eine gute Idee.
Vlt in den größeren deutschen Städten?
I really like the concept and this is also good for the environment because it will help in reducing the air and sound pollution and traffic issue too, but i understood that there is no proper cycle stand where you want to park it properly. Diese Leihfahrräder sind eine schöne Idee und ohne Ende nützlich für die Menschen, aber bei zu vielen Rädern wird die Landschaft verschandelt. Die Leute stellen die Räder auch leider an den unmöglichsten Stellen ab.
Die gelben Räder fallen eben besonders auf. Es sollte ein Incentive geben, das Rad richtig zu parken ;)
