Utopian Colony - Supporting Open Source and Contributors
Utopian Colony is the first crowd-sourcing platform to connect open source projects & contributors from all digital professions. source
Open Source
Open-source is a type of a computer software, mobile or web application which the source code is available for study, modification or redistribution. Open-source software may be developed by different developers from different region’s i.e in a collaborative public manner.
Brief History of Open Source
From research; It started in the 80s by Richard Stallman. The idea came to him when he had an issue with his printer and he had to take it to the company for a fix due to the license behind the software. Now, he thought this is a stress and what if one could design or develop a software and the code can be read and fixed by anyone who understands the code. This thought led to the development FOSS Free and Open Source Software which implies freedom of software exchange and modification.
A few months after FOSS was founded, Richard developed GNU (GNU not Unix) which would have been the Linux of today but failed to develop the core part of the operating-system which Linus Torvalds developed successfully in 1991 and released as open-source for massive contribution from developers around the world. As of Sep 2018 Linux kernel repository has 782,487 commits in total from around 19,009 different authors The repository is made up of 61,725 files and from there around 25,584,633 line of codes. Amazing! This shows the power of open-source projects. more
Benefits
There are umpteen benefits and merits of open-source projects; Affordability, Security, Flexibility, Transparency, Perpetuity, and Interoperability.
Affordability
Most of open-source products are freely distributed. From the onset OSS (Open Source Software) it is said to be free as in kittens” and not “free as in beer” because softwares require maintenance which is not free so some of OSS require donation from their users.
Security
Open-source products are highly secure because the codes are visible to the community. In this case, it’s seldom or not possible for someone to create open-source software for stealing users' data.
Transparency
Open-source products are transparent like the blockchain. One of the main reasons for adoptions of blockchain technology is transparency, this has existed in open-source products before the blockchain.
Flexibility
Open source software gives freedom and flexibility to users because the codes can be altered and extended by any developer who knows the source code. This grants organizations freedom from “vendor lock-in” and assures long-term viability. Active open source products are updated regularly with new features by hundreds of developers. This proves such softwares will exist in the future.
Utopian
Utopian is a platform build on top of the Steem blockchain that reward every open-source contributor.
Utopian Colony
Utopian Colony is the new platform being developed by Utopian to extend open source contributors experience with lots of cool and amazing features. The new platform will connect every contributor to the project owner for more offers and prizes.
Support Utopian Colony Development
As we all know, funds are required to build a sophisticated product. Utopian has been developing a new platform (Utopian Colony) for several months, to achieve the goal, Utopian launched a fundraising program on Indiegogo with a budget of $35,000. As I'm writing this, Utopian has only raised $1,650 USD of $35,000 USD, that's 4% of 100% which is very far from what is needed.
The purpose of this post is to create awareness among others and support Utopian on Indiegogo.
3-Ways Support
Make donation, buy perk, and share with friends.
You can either support by buying Perks available which will be of great advantage to early adopters (customized badges on user's profile and other great privileges) or by creating awareness to those who can support Utopian achieve the goal.

Too many projects on steem promised great advantage to the early investors and then screw them by changing rules later on. People become more careful about where to invest.
Word utopian and colony are definitely not of help.
would it help if I said "this one is different"?
It's not about me and what I think.
It was meant in general.
Utopian is now live on Indiegogo
Thanks for supporting the development of Utopian Colony on Indiegogo!
