Introduction
Openwhot is a type of card game popularly known as Whot in Nigeria. However, this open whot differs from others, as you can see the CPU cards. The application can be downloaded here
Components
My suggestion is on 3 different sections of the application namely
- Main menu section
- Settings section
- Gameplay section
Proposal
As a lover of the card game called Whot I prefer this particular whot application over others because of the difficulty level and the open cards feature. However, I noticed some missing features in the application that would have enhanced the application
Main menu section
I propose that the main menu should be further enhanced to include a Tournament and Multiplayer option and not just a single player mode vs CPU
Settings section
The settings section should include a way to choose player avatar and name. The avatar used will then represent the user in the Tournament and Multiplayer option. The application differs from other whot application because it is open, however I will prefer a toggle option to choose either open or hidden cards.
Gameplay section
While playing the game, certain settings should be able to be configured. One of those settings is the sound. The game sound should be able to be switched on or off when the game is on.
All this will be explained in the Mockups below.
Mockups / Examples
Below is an example of what should be added to the application main menu Tournament and Multiplayer
On clicking the Tournament it should bring a tournament mode where the user compete with at-least 3 CPU avatar
When the Multiplayer is clicked, an option to either create or join an existing match should pop-up
The below option to choose avatar, username and gender should be available in the settings menu.
The option to toggle cards from either Open or hide should be available and ability to switch on or offgame sound during gameplay should be available
Benefits
Open whot is a cool game while deviating from the norm. However, I believe it can be further enhanced and I already proposed my ideas. The benefits of these ideas include
- The presence of the Tournament and multiplayer feature will make sure the game is not boring as time goes on. With the ability to set difficulty level for the tournament, it will engage users and make them love the application more.
Coupled with the multiplayer feature, user can slug it out with other users and be rest assured that there will be no cheats/ hiding of cards. This will further create friendship between users.
The avatar feature coupled with the username and gender will be a great addition, as it will enable users choose whatever avatar they want and name when they want to compete with others. The username will then reflect in the leaderboard which can be shared with friends.
Adding the ability to switch cards mode to either open or hidden will make the application more complete in the sense that users who prefer hidden cards mode can easily toggle the option and play the game efficiently without needing to download a different application just because of their preference. Game sounds should be able to be switched of during ingame too. Some users may forget to switch it on in the main settings and will be disappointed on starting the game that they can't access the game sound during in-game
Conclusion
I believe adding this features will enhance user experience and improve the application in a positive way.
