Here are my designs for a new 1UP Mascot.

My mascot is called Uppy. It's because he resembles a Puppy. He looks super cool in this gradient, and his job is to make people upvote. That's the other reason he is called Uppy. I tried different compositions and outlines and here i present some of the results. Thank you for the task, i had fun doing it, it was very interesting, and in the end i created a tutorial in the process. :)

1 - Create a simple font from squares.
2 - Create the main shape of the mascot.
3 - Remove the outline. For a fill use the gradient option. In the gradient settings Set the first color to purple, and the second one to blue.
4 - Create an outline using simple shapes. (This step is optional.)
5 - Align the outline and the main shape and group them.
6 - Create a shape using the pen tool that will serve as the ears shadow. Turn off the outline and set fill color according to the colors in your composition.
7 - Align the ears shadows to the main shape.
8 - Choose the main shape and go to gradient settings. There you can set the direction of the gradient to your liking. I decided to pick 90 degrees for my design.
9 - Creating the eyes - to the left you can see the complete eye, and to the right - the three elements i used to create it. First you create the square that will be the center. After that we create the white square that represents the highlight in the eyes. Finally we create 4 black rectangles to be the outline. When we arrange them together we have the whole eye - we group it, and copy it twice.
10 - Arrange the eyes to the other parts of your composition.
11 - For my design i decided to create a nose, for my mascot. Again - to the left you can see the whole nose, and to the right I've shown the two elements i made it from.
12 - Align the nose to the rest part of the head, group it and copy it.
13 - You can try it without the outline.
14 - Experiment freely with your text and mascot composition.
