The reward system is complex and to a new user or even old user can appear to be senseless and or unfair. The only reason that I stay here is that I do not currently see anything better. Simplification and equalization would help a lot to keep me around. It seems that most societies are eventually destroyed by elites having most of the power or influence.
It sure is and as I mentioned, there's a learning curve on Steemit and most people don't even try to learn.
While there's room for improvement, you're right that there's nothing better out there even to compare.
