The Curious Expedition - Greek Translation Part. 31

in #utopian-io6 years ago (edited)

Current Session

Another day, another contribution for The Curious Expedition. Actually, I found this translation particularly easy. Not only were the strings I encountered very undemanding, like most of the times, but also the translation and the words came out naturally and effortlessly out of my head.

What I mean is that sometimes I get stuck here and there, thinking how I can make a particular sentence sound "proper" and "natural" in my language. But this time I had a really good flow and I got it finished in just about 2 hours, when it usually takes me 3 or more for the same amount of words.

Maybe I am getting better, or maybe I just got lucky.

Oh well.. Let's see some of the strings I translated for this session to give you an idea of what I am dealing with:

  1. It felt like a lifetime since I experienced the comforts of my own home. I worried that I would forget about it completely. How long would I be able to go on? I prepared for another [night|sleep] in these [strange|unique|special|fantastic|quite remarkable|truly fascinating|otherworldly|alien|foreboding|exquisite] lands. Suddenly $name [appeared next to me|joined me|stumbled into my camp]. $He had been sent to retrieve me when it seemed that I would not return. It was nothing less than a miracle that $he had found me.
  1. Enter Hut
  1. The shaman [quickly grabbed|snatched] the offered goods and then [asked who he should treat|beckoned the injured towards him].
  1. I was confident we already had packed sufficient water. Taking surplus water would surely add overburden our expedition.

As you can see, it's the usual easy stuff. :)

And like always, here's a small taste of the music I enjoyed while preparing this contribution:

Project Details

The Curious Expedition is a rogue-like expedition simulation set in the 19th century. It's the first game by indie developer Maschinen-Mensch. The game is available on Steam, GOG, Humble Store and at the official homepage http://curious-expedition.com. The game has been regularly updated through out the last 2 years. A list of all the updates can be found here. For information on modding the game, go here . [source and more info]

Gameplay

And here's what I believe to be the official trailer:

Why Did I Choose This Project?

Well, to be honest, I chose this project because all the other options were applications with boring names like Freecad and Jabref. I thought it would be fun (edit: less boring) to translate a game instead. And thank god... I was right!

I am sure my team members are very jealous that I get to translate strings like "Let's eat", "Giant tortoise", "I feel happy and sad", and "Oh my god" while they get to translate stuff like "resolving duplicate keys", "Port Design", "Constraining modifier key" and "Corrugated elements"... LOL!

Too bad for them, now they have to live with the choices they have made....MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

Contribution Specifications

  • Translation Overview: This is a really large project, approximately 80.000 words and obviously it's gonna take me a while to finish. In each part I plan to translate anywhere from 700 to 1200 words. For the most part, the translation is very easy as there are few, if any, technical terms.
  • Languages: The project is being translated from English to Greek.
  • Word Count: According to Crowdin, for Part 31# I translated 928 words, for a total of 31675 translated words. Since most of the strings translated were part of the in-game dialogues there were only a handful (1, maybe 2%) that were left in the original language, e.g. screenshot.

Thank you for contributing to the Davinci-Utopian translation project @trumpman!
This was the 31st part for the “Curious Expedition” project and your contribution number 32 to the translation category in total.

You are currently working on the Curious Expedition, a game that, even though it may not contain difficult terms and vocabulary, is one of the biggest projects a member of our team has ever tried to work on (almost 80,000 words). Good luck on this difficult task!
When you started translating, a handful of strings were already submitted (but not approved or voted) by another translator irrelevant to the Davinci-Utopian project. You have gone through them and checked them for any corrections that needed to be made, you have even fixed a few of them that were problematic.

With only ONE mistake, (μαραίνετε instead of μαραίνεται) this has to be the best translation I have ever proofread!

Keep up the good job. Your quirky style as well as the quirky post are perfectly complimenting the work you are doing.
