RE: Curation Slider SP requirement Reduction + Gradients
I agree with the concept, but I disagree with the specifics.
While I think that a slider should be added before 500SP, it should be done sooner than that.
Obviously it should't be done while your vote is still only worth $0.01 because then you're just be giving worthless votes. But once you have enough to give a $0.02 vote, you should have the ability to give only half of that away. So you would have a 50% and 100% option.
Once you had reached enough for $0.03 vote, you would have 33%, 66%, and 100% votes.
After $0.04 votes, the options would be 25, 50, 75, and 100% and that wouldn't change after that until you reached 500 SP or something.
The idea being to allow people to spread their votes across more people as it's advantageous to show appreciation to lots of small followers until you can build a large standing. It's hard to show appreciation when you can only do it 10 times per day.
tl;dr have the slider sooner, like once you have a $0.02 upvote
It needs to be at hard enough to reach that there is incentive to get there, it isn't too far away and on the path to get it, one can learn how to use the system well. What I find is even people that have been here for several months still do not understand some of the fundamentals of the system. Many still don't understand how curation works even though there is information in the FAQ and many posts on the topic.
In my opinion, there needs to be some difficulty to gain access to some areas and that difficulty is a path of learning, not arbitrary points. As price increases, 250 may be too high also but with the current SBD prices, it is not too bad. I am open to compromise of course but 2c is at around 40 SP. That is too low and remember that if this was implemented, a whole lot of people would instantly have access. Many with 40 SP haven't got a great grasp on the workings of the platform at this point which means they are not likely to use the slider well.
Of course, this is all open to discussion and I am unsure about the different points based on price but one it was set up, it could be adjusted as necessary.
I get your point. There should be something to work towards.
I'm thinking down the road though. As the price of Steem goes up the SP reward goes down, so it becomes more difficult to "level up." It will be interesting to see what happens with the whole "pegging" discussion going on. If they peg SBD to $1, it should lower the price of Steem too which would make it easier to "level."
