What Is The Project

#PhotoFeed is a project spear-headed by @jrue, @aweber, @yumyumseth and @cryptoctopus that aims to improve the experience of those who want to see beautiful professional photography on steemit.com. I’ve been working on Photofeed.club as a way to improve the experience of the growing #photofeed Community. #photofeed has 4,353 posts in its first month! Steemit/Busy are not the best place for discovery and showcasing as their primary purpose needs to fit many types of ‘blog’. With a custom platform, we can tailor the needs of the interface to photography.

Technology Stack

The initial version is kept minimal as a static HTML/CSS/JS site pulling data directly from the Steem-js powered database API and making use of Finallycomments for login/vote and comment functionality.

Current Development

The initial version aims to create a better viewing experience and present the idea of a separate platform for photofeed. [https://photofeed.club] is live and ready to test today!

  • Pull data from the Steem database API
  • Trending + Latest feeds in a masonry grid that's far better for viewing photos than Steemit or busy.org
  • Infinite Scroll
  • Individual Post Data in overlay (many of #photofeed submissions are far more than just one photo)
  • Voting + Commenting integration with Finallycomments 🙌

Load individual posts when a photo catches your attention.

Challenges

Working with content from multiple platforms was far more difficult than I expected it to be. People submit to the #photofeed hashtag from Steemit.com/Busy.org/alpha.steepshot.io/esteem/steepshot android/get scouted. Each treats the markdown/HTML they create for the post.body slightly differently, making reconstructing the HTML tricky.

Development Roadmap

With an average of over 150 submissions per day to the #photofeed hashtag, I can see this community growing stronger into the future and there are many ways a specific platform for #photofeed could be useful. Ideas for the next stages.

  • Host the photo feed blog as the main page on photofeed.club
  • Submit content directly from photofeedclub
  • Photographer highlights & features
  • FAQ for visitors non-familiar with the Steem
  • Maintain own database for better speed & stability
  • Friendly SAP framework, suggestions?
  • Filters, ranking, there are far more possibilities because this is our own system

Big shout out to @jrue, @aweber, @yumyumseth and @cryptoctopus for running @photofeed and bringing photographer son steemit together.

It would be great to hear what the community & project leaders think of the idea?

suggestions, ideas, questions, and pull requests all welcome.

Well, you should leave a bug for me, couldn't find any. :)
So I tried to design a logo for the project but i didn't liked it.

I didn't even know there were great photographs around here. I've checked many of them to see if it's shared on steem or you used some placeholder.

It's already looking neat and I guess you have some ideas to prevent pollution.

That's awesome, Sam! :)

Thanks. Experimenting mostly. I feel the STEEM photography eco-system is still missing something. We have steepshot and I recently noticed bescouted but I still spend 95% of my time on the Steemit interface. I think the initiative @cryptoctopus took to back #photofeed was pretty cool and it's reflected in its uptake. Great to see some of the more infulential accounts backing the content they enjoy.

Interested to see what you're working on/thinking of for @dshot-io there's a great opportunity to fill that space. One thing I see (which is potentially just a larger STEEM problem) is that the top of the trending page for steepshot and to a lesser extent photofeed.club are just crap photos with big bid-bot votes. A weighted reputation based voting system might help solve that. I might look at trying to implement a version of that next week.

Thank you for the contribution. It has been approved.

Cool! Who do you see as the primary audience?
Us or other folk on the internet?

In its current form, it's intended for current users of STEEM. That said I hope in future perhaps with the including of profiles for photographers it might be a better way for photographers to introduce their friends/audience to #photofeed. Being a dedicated place there are no worries of new users having to navigate through the crypto charts, infighting, memes or whatever else is being pushed through bid bots.

What do you think is the better use case for this?

And thanks for thanks a look :)

Muy buena iniciativa, gran proyecto, ojala y todo salga bien :D

That is a great news Sam.

I like the hard work of you guys that you guys created a place for the photographers and also used finallycomments as a comment system. exactly a lot of users are posting their photography via steemit and busy because Steemit accepts multiple type of posts which is not looking cool for the photographers as a good user experience.

A few days ago, I bought a camera for doing some photography. Right now I'm in the learning process. I hope that I'll learn some of its functionalities soon.

Great to hear you have brought a camera. I hope you enjoy learning the art.

I know steemit inc are working on "communities" but there still is not much information about what that actually is so until then I think the initiative that #photofeed founders took is great. Just trying to help out however I can.

Thanks Sam. You and the #photofeed founders are appreciated for whatever you guys do for the community.

I hope that Steemit will figure it out the issue of displaying different Steem blockchain based apps posts all in one place by creating some sort of good user interface in the future.

photofeed.club is a awesome idea for photographers and who's like photography. Carry on your job because it is a great idea. Because of that you will reach in your goal soon, I think. BEST OF LUCK.
