SteemMakers Logo Design Contest - My First Entry
This is my first entry for the @steemmakers Logo Competition.
I created a flat fill, and a light gradient fill version of the logo. Both versions can be seen below over light and dark backgrounds.
Software Used: Affinity Designer
This is my first ever design using Affinity Designer. I have used Illustrator for years, and decided to try Affinity designer because I don't really like the subscription fee model used by Adobe.
First impressions of the software are very positive, it's very similar to Adobe Illustrator in terms of layout and functionality, and although the effects studio in Affinity lacks a lot of the texture effects offered by Ilustrator, it's definately a decent alternative for freelance designers.

Thanks for your effort nick but I fail to see how this logo relates to SteemMakers. We made quite some effort to outline what we are looking for. Did you check it?
Hi @jefpatat, yes I did check it.
I show different sized versions above (there is no need to change position of elements as you did in your examples due to the shape of the logo). The logo is provided in a version without gradients.
The kettle is a wordplay on the simularity between Steem and Steam, also indicative of the huge amount of coffee that most Devs consume :)
I thought it was pretty obvious, but perhaps not...
Please could you clarify on where you think I deviated from the requirements?

I get the reference steem -> steam but that holds true for almost everything on the steem blockchain. I miss the uniqueness or reference to the project, I think it's too general. It's just my personal opinion. I have added it to the overview and I'm not the only one deciding ;-)

I understand what you mean, but given the broad scape of SteemMakers it's kinda tough to come up with a visualisation for benevolent creativity. I will give it some more thought and try for a second version, how much time is left?

It's been running for two weeks now and that was the hard limit. We said that we would allow entries over the weekend as well as not everyone has so much spare time. So by the end of the weekend it's over.
