The translation

This time around, I could see what they meant when they said that the original could be 'very difficult' to translate. In this second part, they surely weren't lying. I got off on a great and easy start with the first part, and I am sure this part will not be the end of the complexity.
I'd be the last person to tell you that I know much about the material at all. However, I am learning JavaScript at the moment (at a very slow pace) so I do enjoy working on the translation for Node.js, because sometimes I even know what they're talking about!
In this second part of the translation of the project into Dutch, I finished the toc. file, which pretty much only had some titles and shorter sentences to translate.
Easy peasy. Or, what I call it now: the calm before the storm.
Because the toc file was only short (approximately 100 words) I also translated 25% of the subject called Addons.
And here it was where the fun really started.
I began on this Saturday night, and soon enough I discovered that my eyes could not handle this much code. It made me wonder how the guys writing this stuff do this! Either way: great respect for those people! After doing little bits and pieces here and there, besides some other things I'm working on, I finally finished 25% of the Addons yesterday evening, and decided to call it quits for that day.
Since I haven't done much translation work in a while (it's been about a year and a half) I really have to get used to it again. And it also reminded me of how much I used to like it.
There is always a challenge, whether you're translating 10,000 words about orchids, or 5,000 about the cleaning facilities in prisons, or this...trust me: there is always a moment (or a few moments) when you read a text over and over, and just can't seem to find the right words for it. It's usually the moment when I decide to leave it for the day, and move back onto it the next.
And in that regard, it is great to have a proofreader, who can read the material with objective eyes, and find things you completely missed (it happens, nobody's perfect).

As I continue with the translation of the subject of Addons, I am hoping to gain more knowledge about the subject. I am under no illusion that I will know everything there is to know about it, but it's a good start. Even though, I can honestly say that I'm an expert on orchids, as well as the cleaning regimen in prisons...😉

Besides all this: I am pretty sure that my eyes will get used to all the code and information in front of me. After all: practice is the key.

After our first issue with the word count, there is really no easier way to know exactly how many words were translated, other than: not to start translating on another part after just translating an earlier in the same day. In that case, it is possible to check the number of words exactly by date in Crowdin.com. This was my mistake, because I finished one translation on Saturday, and started the second one that same day. So the only way for me to see exactly how many words were done, was to take the total number of words and distract the words from the first translation.
In this case, it brings the total translated word count to 2201 words, which translates to 2273 in Dutch.
Taken into account that I translated 1106 words in the first part, this brings this second part's translation to a total of 1095 words.
For my next translation report it will be much easier, since I won't start one right after I finish another.

What comes up next?

As stated before, I finished the subject of Addons for 25%. I am hoping to finish this within 2 to 3 more translations. My respect goes to @minersean for his eagle eyes. He caught mistakes when I didn't, and therefore I am 100% sure I did the right thing by proposing him as second LM.
Besides this, he's more of a nerd than I am (I meant that in the most loving way possible) so he knows what he's talking about. Thank you @minersean!

Thank you for reading!

Hey @misslasvegas, thank you for your contribution to the translation project for Davinci-Utopian!

I feel like we got a bit blindsided by the previous translation, as this one was indeed a lot more difficult than the previous one! Yet, you handled it really well! We found some small issues but managed to easily fix those, and though you raise a good point about counting the amount of words, you also know how to resolve the problem.

Even if the road to completion is still long, and we won't for sure know how difficult it is going to be, I'm sure you'll be fine!

Good job!

So far this week you've reviewed 2 contributions. Keep up the good work!

Thank you for the kind words @minersean, they mean a lot. It's good to see I 'still got it' and I value you as a LM/proofreader. You have a great eye :)

Which is terribly ironic because of my glasses :^)

Haha, terribly ironic dutch humour :)
