Gearing Up to Promote STEEM in the Dominican Republic

Tomorrow I fly out to the Dominican Republic where I will be spending a long weekend on the beach with some funky music and awesome people. This will be my second time visiting the Dominican Republic and I can't wait to get back. It's a beautiful country, but unfortunately many people are living in poverty. It was a bit sad seeing the living conditions of some of the locals, especially considering I was there to attend a lavish, all-inclusive festival at a top-notch resort.

Attending @steemfest filled me with loads of inspiration. From @surfermarly's talk about her @dreamsoftheocean project, to @sterlinluxan's talk about breaking free from the 9-5 work grind, I definitely left Lisbon with the urge to live a more fulfilling life. One of the best talks of the week was given by @starkerz on the first day of conferences. He gave a speech about his #promo-steem project. This is a grassroots marketing campaign run by the STEEM community aimed at introducing others to this amazing platform. On-boarding users benefits everyone on the STEEM network and gives a great opportunity to the newcomers as well!

The Plan...

I will be promoting STEEM in the Dominican Republic over the weekend while I attend the Dominican Holidaze Music Festival.

I used this handy template created by @steempowerpics to print a whole bunch of personalized STEEM business cards: https://steemit.com/steemit/@steempowerpics/free-steemit-promotional-business-cards-download-print-share-100-free

I printed over 100 of these cards and I intend to hand them out to people over the course of the festival. My primary target will be the festival employees and the locals. From my experience attending this festival last year, the workers arrive by bus each day and cater to the resort-goers. They remain in high spirits and happy despite going home to a life of poverty at the end of each day. As long as they have access to internet, STEEM can provide them with an awesome alternative source of income. I am very excited to introduce the locals to the wonderful world of STEEM.

It was a whole bunch of cutting and taping...

I finished with a stack of freshly printed, homemade business cards... It took a bit of work but I think I got a solid technique down for future batches. Now I'm ready to conquer the D.R!

Awesome effort man! Way to get out there!

Thanks my friend! We'll see how it goes!

Very Cool! I'm happy to know you were able to use these for your promotional efforts. Good luck and have fun in the D.R.

I was considering updating some designs to the new logo and colors, BUT, I have read warnings about Steemit, Inc. getting strict on the use of their new official logo, so I have not done so yet. The blue ones you printed are the general 'STEEM' logo and good to use. :-)

I prefer to promote STEEM (the decentralized network) instead of Steemit Inc. (company) anyway. So thank you very much my friend!

This is so awesome to see! Enjoy the ride and looking forward to see where the train takes you!! :)

Thanks for the inspiration my friend! Keep up the great work!

@starkerz great presentation. I messaged @elear the creator of @utopian-io earlier today to let him know about the promo-steem project, and all the people you are supporting with this. Perhaps utopian-io can delegate SP to the project and you will be able to upvote this 200 people or even 1000s a day with the same power you are doing the most you can with your account. You may scroll down on the link below to find what I wrote.

Yeah gotta get the word out there :)

Great job! Thanks for your efforts , we truly appreciate it!

This is golden. If everyone on steemit did a little more of this, the platform would be mainstream in no time

Agreed! Just gotta keep spreading the good word!

awesome man! great to see steem taking off in the world

You're awesome @jeffjagoe! I've been working up to printing similar material for promo here in Ireland, but was hesitating since the logo changed. Can I ask why you chose to use the old logo (besides that it's prettier)? The only thing that has been stopping me from having things printed (read: do it myself) is the logo really. But anyhow, great work and enjoy your weekend in paradise!

The old Steemit Inc. logo is really just the STEEM logo! So still using the STEEM logo is perfectly fine to me!

I had no idea you're in Ireland, you're username had me thinking you were from Nevada! I'll be heading out to visit a friend in March in Trim, County Meath. I hope to tour the whole country though so maybe let's meet for a Guiness!

Haha, yeah to make it more complicated I'm Dutch, live in Ireland but used to live in Vegas...You don't want to know how many times I had to explain this at Steemfest 😉... For a bit I wished I'd chosen a different name but it's been a name I've been using for years and kinda stuck with it. Yes!!! We'll have to meetup when you get here! County Meath is cool, but Mayo is better...lol.

I’ve never been to Ireland and my first time in Europe was for @steemfest, so I am pretty excited! I should be in Dublin for St. Patrick’s Day (although I hear that’s mostly an American thing)

Yeah, St. Patrick's day is a pretty big deal in the US (not everywhere of course) but I think it's pretty good in Dublin even though I've never been to it there. I usually stick around the area for St. Patrick's day but the smaller towns don't really do much besides an evening of drinking (which they usually do anyway) and usually a tiny parade.

This is a great idea, enjoy the concert.

right on! thanks for making the effort to promote the community
