Arabic Translation of FreeCAD (Part 3) (742 words)

Project Details:

  • FreeCAD is like a swiss Army knife when it comes to engineering toolkits. Thanks to its open source nature it can be used by anyone to create product designs, mechanical engineering and architecture objects.
  • A variety of its features are used today by a wide range of students and teachers. It is capable of delivering 3D real-life objects taking advantage from the parametric modeling feature which can be used to easily modify a design with the possibility to go back in history and change some of its parameters.
  • Unlike its direct competitor on the market: AutoCAD, which has an annual subscription of more than a 1000$ which is impossible for normal students in my country to pay. FreeCAD can come to the rescue by providing a complete engineering toolkit for free.
  • So, from now on it will be my life mission to provide a proper and accurate translation of this wonderful gift.

Contribution Specifications:

  • This is my third contribution to the FreeCAD open source project.
  • As i had mentioned in previous contributions, this product is designed for engineering students. and generally the higher education systems in the arabic world are either in french or in english. but we want badly to change that by starting with the open sources tools which grow stronger and stronger by the day. and this is a clear example illustrated by this software that competes against the so-powerful and so-expanisve AutoCAD.
  • An other thing to mention, is that we've decided (me and our moderator) that instead of going with the phonetic versions of the words which are the most commonly used we will be using the Arabic based word as to push the user to learn them and exploit them and to give the arabic language a little of independence when it comes to technical vocabulary.

In this session:

The files concerned with the translation in this contribution are :

  • FreeCAD.ts : The sentences contained in this file are basically related to the menu and the toolbar of the desktop software like creating and and managing the directory of the project.
  • Sketcher.ts : The term sketcher refer to a FreeCAD workbench designed to create 2D geometries object. and this file is all about dealing with a sketch(رسمة) in arabic.
  • Robot.ts : This file contains a terminology related to a robot simulation module that allows the study of robot movements.
  • TechDraw.ts : This file is a little bit more specialized as it contains the different operations that can be applied to a 2D and 3D geometry.

Languages:

  • The FreeCAD project is written in a professional english related to the engineering field. my task during this period is to provide an Arabic translation and i'm capable of that simply because i'm an Arabic native speaker.

Word count:

  • Total words count: 31 770 words.
  • Total words translated in this part: 777 words.
  • Number of untranslated words in this part: 35 words.
  • Number of duplicated words ≈ 43 words.
  • Time frame: from august 17 at 05h00(GMT+1) to august 19 at 18h00(GMT+1) : Proof (Total) - Proof(1st & 2nd contribution).
  • Final count: 742 words.

Hi @ismailkah,

Thank you for your contribution.

    • This is your third contribution to this project.
    • We have here a nice presentation that contains all the information needed about the word done, at a defined level, we can consider ourselves the pioneers of something bigger, for the reason that we are shaping the vocabulary for open source project for the Arabic users/readers, learning how to use those FOSS will definitely create a new way of thinking and a new way to deal with the lack of terminology. Even if the work that we are doing here is seemingly granular, I really believe that we are doing something for the Arabic community by empowering people to use the Arabic version of any FOSS that we have already worked on, we are basically in a position of power that will allow us to make the first small step toward something bigger.
    • As for the translation, most of the work presented is accurate, with some minor mistakes. most of the string translated are short and easy, but I feel that the project is becoming more harder each time because of the nature of a lot of strings. I have always considered that the standalone strings with one or tow words are the most difficult to translate, especially in projects that contain a lot of procedural linking or functions, this is why it is so hard to find the right meaning or context unless the translator has already a decent background and experience with the FOSS he is working on. Thus, you are highly advice to be more careful in the next contributions to lower the probability of making any mistake.
    • Thank you, and looking forward to your next contribution.
