Project Details:

  • FreeCAD is like a swiss Army knife when it comes to engineering toolkits. Thanks to its open source nature it can be used by anyone to create product designs, mechanical engineering and architecture objects.
  • A variety of its features are used today by a wide range of students and teachers. It is capable of delivering 3D real-life objects taking advantage from the parametric modeling feature which can be used to easily modify a design with the possibility to go back in history and change some of its parameters.
  • Unlike its direct competitor on the market: AutoCAD, which has an annual subscription of more than a 1000$ which is impossible for normal students in my country to pay. FreeCAD can come to the rescue by providing a complete engineering toolkit for free.
  • So, from now on it will be my life mission to provide a proper and accurate translation of this wonderful gift.

Contribution Specifications:

  • This is my second contribution to the FreeCAD open source project.
  • The process of translating this project into Arabic is a little bit tricky. although, the sentences related to the engineering field may appear easy to translate but the thing is that generally engineering students are not quite familiar with this terms in our native language because generally the educational system in the arabic word is either in french or in english. however, we want badly to change that even with a small contribution 😇.
  • In this part, i tried as hard as i can to translate only the sentences that i'm 100% sure of their consecutive translations and to keep every string that seems ambiguos until future contributions.

In this session:

  • The files concerned with the translation in this contribution are : Arch.ts - Drawing.ts - Fem.ts - FreeCAD.ts - Points.ts and TechDraw.ts. those files shares a lot of common terminology related to the creation and the design of 2D and 3D parts, and some preferences settings, in addition to some general equations tied up to the materiel's state field.
  • The sentences presented in those files are amazingly diversified and technical, the thing that had pushed me to download the software and to start getting around its features. but it was a little bit difficult to make a link between the sentences to translate and their location in the software. so most of the time, i was only refering to the FreeCAD documentation which was quite sufficient (up until now). because this is the first project that i work on and has a a well-built documentation.
  • An other thing to mention is that i have found 2 words that have almost the same translation in arabic, so i was forced to discern between the two words as to give the arabic user a clear distinction about the meaning of every word, and to get rid of any possible confusion. in this case I'm refering to the words ( Part "قطعة") and (segment "شريحة") .

Languages:

  • The FreeCAD project is written in a professional english related to the engineering field. my task during this period is to provide an Arabic translation and i'm capable of that simply because i'm an Arabic native speaker.

Word count:

  • Total words count: 31 770 words.
  • Total words translated in this part: 779 words.
  • Number of untranslated words in this part: 51 words.
  • Number of duplicated words ≈ 55 words.
  • Time frame: from august 16 at 02h00(GMT+1) to august 17 at 04h00(GMT+1) : Proof (Total) - Proof(1st contribution)
  • Final count: 728 words

Hi @ismailkah,

Thank you for your contribution.

    • This is your second contribution to this project.
    • The presentation is very good, and as you said, it is indeed quite hard to find and locate the strings inside the software, especially the strings related to designing, and any advanced procedure in the conception process.
    • This is why you can try and look in the documentation as you said, or you can use YouTube too, because there is a lot of tutorial videos done by many people about this software. But at the end of day, we are just here to help, if a string is too hard or ambiguous, just avoid it or wait for answers from the project owner/manager.
    • As for the translation, I can say that most of the work done is accurate, this project is too techy, and very hard to deal with. But for the sake of the mission that we are doing here in Davinci, try to use the Arabic based word even if the phonetic version is correct, both of what I suggested (سَّبَج/لَدائِن/اليشب) and what you suggested (الأوبسيديان/ البلاستيك/ الجاد) are correct, but I’m sure that if we use the first suggestions, this means that we are pushing people to learn new words, something new in Arabic that they did not know before.
    • Looking forward to you next contribution, and Aid Mubarak to you.

Thanks!
yeah, while i was translating i had thought to use the arabic version of those 3 words, it is just occured to me that since we are dealing with engineering students and i wanted to make the task as easy as possible for them that's why i had used the phonetic versions. but now i had second-guessed it and i think you're right. Anyway, aid mubarek to you too.

Thank you for your review, @dr-frankenstein!

So far this week you've reviewed 2 contributions. Keep up the good work!
