Introduction

SteemPress is a tool that converts any websites to a Steem blog. From blog to blockchain! That is the moto of the project. It is a WordPress plugin that integrates the Steem blockchain on the web. More than 70% of the web pages out there are built with WordPress. Me myself I have played around a little bit with WordPress and have setup a page with it in the past. It is easy to learn and do. Buy the domain, install WordPress, setup a template and of you go. So, a tool to integrate the Steem blockchain into most web pages, with easy setup, can really increase the usage of the blockchain. Plus, you can get a fancy looking web page, with categorization of different topics that you write on, all arranged in a nice way. Not the Steemit interface 😊. Furthermore, one can reach a wider audience, outside the Steem ecosystem, and of course can monetized the content with adds.

@steempress-io was launched in February 2018. It has been around for an almost a year. It is a nice period to do an analysis. At the time this project was launched the crypto space was still flying high, but with the first signs of what to come. The crypto prices dropped by a lot in February 2018, but there was still hope. Later they will go down and down. So, one can say that this project catches some of the euphoria surrounding the crypto space at the time.

In this overview, daily data will be presented for posts that were made through the platform and with the help of the SteemPress plugin. Data like delegations, posts and comments, number of posts and users voted on, average vote worth, number of users and the top Authors that take advantage of this tool.

Scope of Analysis

The analysis was carried out for the period from 01.01.2018 to 31.12.2018. Data from the STEEM blockchain was used and details of the queries can be found at the bottom of this post.

SteemPress Delegations History

Looking at the delegation of a project and the Steem Power in general, gives the sense of the activities that follows.

Here is a graph on SP delegated to @steempress-io in 2018.

Screenshot_02.png

Well the graph is quite a simple one to look at, with only one big movement.

SteemPress have started humble, with a delegation of 2k SP in the first part of the year. This continued until 1st of June, when a delegation of around one million SP was received from @misterdelegation. This allows the project to reward authors that use the plugin with votes, incentivize the usage of the tool, and to attract users to its platform.

Except for the big delegation of one million SP from @misterdelegation, SteemPress doesn’t have any additional delegation to its accounts. Maybe a new strategy is needed to be put in place that will bring more delegation from different users to the project.

At the moment @steempress-io holds 1.022.340 SP.

Activity on SteemPress

Activity on the platform is in posts and comments. All of the content from the authors that have installed the plugin in their web is being published on the Steem blockchain as well and it is appearing on all the interaces for the blockcain, like Steemit, eSteem, Busy, Partiko, SteemPeak etc.

The total number of posts and comments is show in the chart below. Data for each day was collected and presented on this graph.

Screenshot_03.png

The total number of posts and comments on SteemPress in 2018 is 469.078

Interesting graph 😊.
When I first saw this, I was thinking, man something got wrong in the data, now I will need to go back and check what it is, this will take more time etc. I did the check and it turns out the data is OK. What was happening here is that before the Hardfork in October 2018, this tool was used for a lot of spamming. Content with almost nothing on it, one photo, one sentence was published daily. But, after the Hardfork 20, and the introduction of the new Resource Credit system (RC), when you need to have some SP in order to post regularly, the activity dropped massively. So, it looks like this tool was especially good for spammers. Well all that has come to an end and spamming is reduced by a lot. This is in general for the Steemit platform.

The first activity on the platform started from the beginning of February 2018. It has a sharp increase to a 1000 posts and comments per day, and then stabilize around 600 per day until the end of April. At the end of April, the activity picks up an went to almost 2000 per day until the end of May. Then starting from 1st of June comes the big delegation of SP and more rewards to authors. In the next couple of months the activity is constantly growing reaching 3000 posts and comments daily. Then comes the Hardfork in October, and massive drop in activity. No more spamming. After this the activity went down from 800 a day to a 500 at the end of the year.

Below is a breakdown of posts and comments and their movement in 2018.

Screenshot_04.png

The total number of SteemPress posts in 2018 is 394.454.

Now as mentioned above a lot of these posts are spamming. Still there has being a lot of activities on the platform.

Here we can see a similar pattern as in the overall activity. A fast growth in February, steady activity in the next couple of months, and then again, a big growth after May until October and HF20. After the Hardfork the number of posts stabilize itself around 600, with a slow decline to the end of the year. Still this is a steady number of posts a just a small drop having in mind the drop in price in the crypto world in the last months of the year.

Screenshot_05.png

The total number of comments on SteemPress in 2018 is 74.624.

Commenting on the platform is almost the same as the previous graphs. It has a bigger drop then the number of posts after October 2018. At the end of the year there is around 150 daily comment on average.

Number of posts voted

I haven’t use SteemPress myself and I’m not entirely clear with the criteria that @steempress-io uses to vote the posts.

Here how the voting looks in 2018.

Screenshot_06.png

The total number of posts voted from SteemPress in 2018 was 49.340

SteemPress started voting in the middle of February 2018. Until June it casted around 70 votes on average per day. Then after the big delagtion in June 2018 it increases the number of votes, with a spike in the beginning of June reaching almost 300 votes per day. Until the end of the year the number of daily votes stabilized itself on around 200 votes per day and remained the same.

Number of Authors

The number of Authors that received a vote from @steempress-io is an interesting to follow.
This shows how many users @steempress-io supported with their vote. Below is a chart with a number of monthly users that received vote.

Screenshot_07.png

A Total of 1846 users received a vote from SteemPress in 2018.

This is a nice number of users supported by SteemPress. Here as well we can see a steady number of users voted on in the first half of the year, then increase in the number of users voted on starting from June, a small growth until aughust, and then a stable number of around 600 monthly users receiving vote from SteemPress until the end of the year.

Below is a chart with the number of unique users that posted on SteemPress in 2018.

Screenshot_08.png

The chart represent the number o unique users, not a daily or monthly active ones. Still we can see that a new users continued to arive to the platfor in all of the 2018. The biggest growth is in June until Aughust, and then it is slowly growing till the end of the year. In the period after August 2018, more than 500 new users posred on the platform. In 2018 a total of 1846 authors posted on the SteemPress platform and received a vote.

Daily Average Vote Value in STEEM

SteemPress is voting with difrent vote weight on the posts. The average weight for 2018 is around 5,6%. Lets see how much is this in STEEM. Below is a chart of daily average worth of SteemPress vote in steem.

Screenshot_09.png

The daily average value of the vote in 2018 is around 1,9 STEEM

Here we can clearly see a big increase in the average vote starting from June 2018. This is again because of the big delegation that SteemPress received in June 2018. After an intimal variation in the average daily vote it later stabilize itself on an average 3 STEEM per vote.

SteemPress has generated more than a 100k SP in reward in 2018.

Note to the vote values. These values are not directly from the blockchain, but calculated. For this purpose the daily SP that the account holds is used, then the weight of the vote, and a theoretical value of the 95% SteemPress vote. The curator share is also removed

**This means the values are not 100% accurate but approximate. **

Congratulation to the top SteemPress Author in 2018! You have done a great job integrating the Steem blockchain with the regular web.
On the first place is @sndbox, second is @adonisabril, and on the third place @flaws. If some SteemPress author who is not in the top 20 wants to know the ranking for his account feel free to ask in the comment.

Conclusion

SteemPress is providing a unique tool. A way to integrate the usual web with the Steem blockchain. This is a real tokenization of the web. The project started in February 2018 and gained users and activity in the months that follows. Then in June comes the big delegation from @misterdelegation, and a big growth in activity with a lot of spaming. This continued till October when Hardfork 20 happened and stopped the spamming. After this a nice stable activity happened of the platform with just a small drop in activity that is insignificant compering to the drop in price.

A total of 1846 users posted from the SteemPress platform in 2018, and almost 400.000 posts.

Hi @dalz, thanks for your report! The change in the number of steempress posts before and after the hardfork is really impressive! We've seen this on other occasions before and it's certainly a good example to see that the RC system "work". In this context, I was a bit surprised that the number of users voted barely changed over the hardfork, so steempress was obviously already filtering out the spam posts from getting their votes. I think I've mentioned this already on a previous review, but I believe the posts query is too broad by matching steempress in the whole meta data. Your post would match that filter as well and was not created with steempress. You can parse the json_metadata.app field to get more accurate results. Contact me on Discord if you need help, I think I can point you to examples on how to do this. The steempress comments also have to be treated carefully. AFAIK it's only possible to make root posts with steempress, so the comment numbers shown here are probably replies to posts with steempress as the main tag, but I might be wrong?

Thanks for the great review @crokkon, and the suggestions from your side.
Also for the offer to help me around getting more accurate data on the post number. I will contact you for that :)

Thank you for your review, @crokkon! Keep up the good work!

Hey that's some pretty interesting data that you have here ! We have a backend where I view some of the stats to see what's the state of steempress (are users posting more, less, how many authors do we have etc) and I might integrate some of your data.

Thanks !

You welcome @howo .... Glad to see that this can help, and you will use the data :)
If you are interested I can share with you the files as well.

@creativecrypto and other @sndbox members arent included? Are they not, @steempress trails sndbox.

:) You noticed well .... From the top 20 ... I only excluded @creativecrypto .... it was on the first place by a lot .... so I exclude it as an admin account ...

I see, how about the - members of sndbox?

Well I dont know who are they exaclty but they are not in the top 20 .... If you have someone specific I can check him out.... Although would be nice if that accout in particular ask him self
